Okay, so a friend of mine back home in Syracuse asked a question about how we felt about the new Muslim Mosque being built across from the World Trade Center on Facebook today. My only response to that was "What the......??" I was honestly shocked because I would have never guess that anyone would even allow that to happen. I mean, HELLO, 9/11? I started looking up the story online and found several articles about it. Now I really don't know what to feel. I mean what would this do to the families of all those people lost? Some families of 9/11 victims are already speaking out against it. Some of the Muslims in support of this feel like it is some how going to bring unity to the community or something but even Miss USA (the first Muslim to get the crown) doesn't feel like it's right to build it so close to WTC. I feel like it might cause more trouble than good. I mean I guess I kinda get what the Muslim group is saying about trying to bring healing to the area and all but will it bring healing or just reopen a slow healing wound?

My family and I had this discussion a little while ago. It was a real heated debate. I was surprised at some of the views that came from the discussion.

I'm just hoping this isn't our brilliant idea of "creating peace" by the ironic act of putting a mark where they attacked us. Almost like they're trying to play capture the flag and claim their territory. It's kinda a cruel slap in the face. On the other hand if we said no we would be robbing Muslims of their constitutional right to practice their religion where-ever they please. And that might raise questions about segregation. There is no win in this game!

I'm all for Park 51. The simple fact is that the people who are building it are Sufis, and the people who attacked us on 9/11 are Qutb -- and hate Sufis. The only way it makes sense to object to Park 51 is if you want to assert that Muslims all look alike to you, and it's hard to do that and deny that the argument isn't based on bigotry against Muslims, y'know?
The simple fact is that this inability or unwillingness to tell the difference between Sugis and Qutb isn't evidence of a slow healing wound, it's evidence of a wound that's not healing. The only way to create that healing is to provide opportunities for people to understand how diverse a population gets papered over when people start talking about "Muslims" as the people who attacked us on 9/11. If you get what they're saying and trying to do, even if you only kinda get it, then get behind it.
You are aware that there are already two mosques closer to the WTC than Park 51, yes? And in the Pentagon?
As to allowing it to happen, here in America people get to use their private property as they see fit. No allowing required.
