Hi, I heard about such thing but never expected the actual figure could be so large. There is something I want to add to this discussion. When we first start doing meditation we attempt to reject all our thoughts. This gives us a capability to survey and monitor all the thoughts that are passing through our mind. At the beginning the person often gets amazed seeing the amount of thoughts that possesses our mind every single moment. We often mistakenly assume that while doing meditation the number of thoughts actually increases. In reality it does not. What happens is that with such calm state of mind we detach ourselves as an impersonator and then seat back as a mere spectator. In other words, we split our mind in two halves. One that continuously works on achieving the serene, thoughtless state of mind and the other that monitors the entire activity. Normally we don't pay enough attention to our thoughts and overwork our minds. Thanks. God bless you

Let me see - 60 x 60 = 3600 (the number of seconds in an hour) x24 = 86,400 so that makes 1 thought every 1.44 seconds. Unless they are not including sleep time. What is the average sleep time for average adults, 6 hours? Or are dreams considered thoughts? Sometimes my problem is that I think too much. Or I think lots of useless thoughts. Panic attacks, and the like. What if a person meditates? Successfully empties their mind for a time period? Ah, but not an "average" human, yes. In the mainstream culture of the US anyway. Did the book say what we are doing with those thoughts? Us "average" humans, anyway?

this book's name is megaliving.....this book is not about brain mechanism ....it is about living and how to live happily that is written in that book...... author has also written that 90% of 60000 thoughts are same as they were thought yesterday....means we repeat today's thoughts tommorow..... so he wrote that we should not repeat them we should think new thoughts...... happy mylotting

may I know what book you read? I used to read a book by Tony Buzan on the potential of the human brain, a favorite of Tony Buzan book I read was a book about the mind map, there can be explained about the human brain kehebat super computer capable of exceeding this world, but with records of human brain must be enabled before can match the grandeur of the brain super computer, because in fact, the human brain is only in use 10% of his life, so how can we maximize the performance of our brain? one of them is with a lot of reading in a loud voice, because it can increase the right and left brain activity.

That is incorrect. A human does not have to think for their bodies to function. For example a person in a coma doesn't have any thoughts. Their bodies still function. The brain sends signals to the body without the person knowing about it.

I don't know that. Where did you read that? I think I don't get close to that number, hell I think even a thousand thoughts won't enter my mind. I think that refers to our brain processing things and not really the thinking process that we do. Maybe I'm wrong. Its just too amazing to think that we are thinking 60000 thoughts in the average per day.

ya its amazing but the thing the 90% thoughts are copied from yesterday...means only 10% new thoughts are generated in one day...remaining are just rethought...... the books name is megaliving....its an inspirational book ...its not a book which tels abt brain mechanism....this book tells about happy living secrets.... happy mylotting

hi abj wow no I did not know that but that's what I like about mylot as I learn new things every day here. So maybe some days I think even more like today as my email server is refusing to let new email come in to me, and I have read everything and still do not know how to fix this problem. So I must wait for my son to come see me and fix the problme as he is my go to guy for computer problems that I cannot fix my self.So we are all pretty good thinkers to think so many thoughts, hope we think more positive ones than negative ones.

I didn’t know that…I have no idea of the figures and how accurate they are but when you stop and think about it (pardon the pun!) there is never anytime that we are not thinking while we are awake. I would guess that the majority of our thoughts are subconscious and we are more than likely not even aware that we are thinking them. Fascinating...
