Arm yourself...

I went to the grocery store on Monday and on the way out a man stopped me. He was a Jehovah Witness giving out the Watchtower magazine. Ok I didn't panic since I love to share the word of God with people when possible. We talked for a bit but then he said hell didn't exist. Ok that was the signal to get my Bible out. For the life of me I was either too tired, drained, or just not thinking. I couldn't find a single verse that described hell. I told myself not to panic since it wasn't like me. It was really hot outside, over 100 degrees. I had just visited a friend who I have been trying to talk to her about God, inside the store there was a panice because someone had dripped blood all over the store, no one knew where it came from, so maybe I wasn't thinking. I had a friend from church show up so she was my backup. This man said he had a Bible so I told him "You take out your Bible that backs up what you say" He got lost too. I had to pick up my daughter form school so I told him "Look we are not going to agree to anything in 15 minutes but need at least 2-3 hours to discuss this but I'm running late already."
I just left feeling so unarmed. I mean when the Bible says to arm yourself with the Bible as your shield I felt like a failure. Couldn't understand why so much confusion in my brain.
Have you ever felt that way when discussing with other religions why you believe in what you do?

Personally, I welcome such events because they make me think

Well, perhaps you should view it as a good thing, to have a reminder!

I find it hard to gather all my thoughts when trying to pose and argument. I completely understand. Also, the bible has so much information in it, it would take me years to get to a point where someone asked me a question and I could pick out a specific quote for it. I would need to research first.

Normally I have verses in my Bible that are highlighted because they bring up important issues to me. That day was really bad because I just couldn't think. Honestly mentally I am drained right now thinking too much about life. We had just had a sermon Sunday that brought up something about hell and I couldn't remember it. No matter what it's always good to be prepared.

Hi PDBME2 - I do understand your dilemna because I have been there myself. Have you ever before had a discussion with a Jehovah Witness? Generally, they are very well prepared in what to say and they are fervent in trying to win converts to their beliefs. I took a course on them once and did learn a bit about them. I am sure by now you have found the scriptures in our Bible on the reality of hell. There is so much that can be twisted to sound like truth but is not in the Jehovah Witness Bible or the Watchtower. Jesus and who He is the the most disturbing to me. Jehovah Witnesses do not believe Jesus is God. In their bible John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was a god" A demi-god, a lesser god. (Word means Jesus for those who don't know) They actually believe He was the archangel Michael made flesh. They don't believe in our basic Christian doctrine. At any rate, it is very very good the way God is using your witness for Him. I try also and have voiced my beliefs on myLot when I get an opportunity. I don't want to be pushy, but I am not ashamed of my love for the Lord and will not hesitate to answer questions or state my beliefs if it is pertinent to the discussion I am reading.
God bless you - chickabee

Thanks for the info on who Jesus is to them because this man was just calm. I figured I was ready but I wasn't. I told him that I knew he would tell me that the Jehovah Witness were like any other religion but I told him that some religion say they do but once you get into their doctrine it's different. I felt really ashamed to let this man get under my skin. I wasn't upset, kind of laughed at him but I just couldn't come back with a verse to compare. I gave him credit for hitting the pavement in reaching out but not for me.
