Monsoon sickness-- how many of you have got it this season?

This would be valid for Indians especially because there are widespread rains everywhere. One thing that I diligently avoid is not to drink water anywhere when I go out[in restaurants or shops or anywhere else] . We must take exceptional precaution with the water we drink. As such there is a bit of cold, fever, sore throat in the air. My son has had a cough for the past few days . Gargle with salt water and drink hot water for a few days even when there is a mild niggling in the throat. It may disappear without antibiotics. For those who already have some ‘monsoon sickness’ , get well soon.

Yes kala, you are right, most rainy seasons bring their own brand of sickness.here in Mangalore we are having Malaria and Chicoon guniya which is rampant.Mosquitoes seem to be the cause of most of these sicknesses. My sister got it from the patients she was treating and so did my b in law and then spread to the whole family..this was in Bangalore.Thankfully here in my neighborhood we have not had any cases so far...Another weekend cometh ! Have a nice weekend kala

thanks a lot kala, both my sister and her hubby are Paediatricians and occasionally they contact some such disease.Being doctors and also being very busy ( they are managing permanent job, a clinic and a nursing home between them..)they never bother about their health..Of course it is easier to treat themselves when something happens..

hello dear, This is also common here in our place. Due to this unpredictable weather, with the sun so hot in the morning and sudden rain at mid afternoon till evening gives cough and colds to students caught in the rain. My son had some cough and colds last week ,thanks God he is doing fine now. We really need to be extra careful with our health. Good thing here in our place, most restaurants here serves purified or mineral water esp with food chains. Just make sure to use a disposable glass. Happy weekend

Hi Kala, I really don’t know whether to be sad or happy about this, but I’ve not had any monsoon sickness this year simply coz it hasn’t really rained as it should in the monsoons, this year. On the one hand, the roads are not mini-pools of slush and I don’t have to spend days in office, drying out by the AC but no rain is not good either. We must have some spells of heavy shower, which we haven’t had till now. Yes, monsoons are the ideal time for germs to proliferate and water borne diseases are rampant. However, this year, all is well with my family…so ‘touchwood’! How’s life otherwise?

Hi Sudipta! If monsoon rains fail then it is once agian a cause for concern. Here it has been decent but not the traditional kind where it just used to pour in sheets. But, we have had some rains unlike last year when it was totally bad. Otherwise life is on its usual routine.

I have enough immunity as I am into homoeopathy. The beauty of homoeopathy is that although one takes it for a particular ailment or whatever every homoeopathic medicine has kind of a holistic effect.

Nothing like it if homeopathy works for you.My husband used to tell me how his grandfather would give everyone homeopathy medicine and the children would all dream up disorders because the tiny homeopathy tablets were sweet

I don't have a doctor as such. I am very much interested in this therapy and there is not a single day that I do not read my 'Material Medica' and also log on to 'abc of homoeopathy' After I have chosen a particular medicine I buy it from the local shop which is run by a homoeopathic doctor who gives me a nod after I tell him of my findings. Homoeopathy works well for me and the family including my pets!!!

Hi Kala! I agree with you that most of us get sick, when the weather changes from hot and sultry to humid and wet and then again to dry and sunny. As you are aware that we experience different seasons here in North of India and every time it is change of season, we will get cold, running nose and soar throat. I also become a victim of change in weather and I get affected in the months of March, August, September or in November and pollution also adds to our miseries and we have become accustomed to getting ill due to change in weather.

Hi Deepak! It is good to see that you are well.It was your sore throat that prompted me to start this discussion. I have also been reading about the outbreak of dengue in Delhi.Hope there are no mosquitoes near your area. Our place is normally a favourite of mosquitoes but this year ,thankfully, they have chosen not to breed here. It is not as bad as it normally is.

I have never gotten monsoon sickness, but I never drink tap water so maybe that is the reason why. When it is hot and very humid outdoors then it is very uncomfortable for me to go into stores and restaurants where they have the air conditioning on very cold. I am at my summer place now and we do not have monsoons here, but the temperature is over 100F (38F) today so my home A/C is coming on automatically for a little while from time to time. I have it set for 90F (which is 32C) If someone is coming over to visit then I make it colder, but for me this is good.

Yes drannh! Tap water is definitely an important cause .Inour country, hygiene is sadly lacking in certain areas and I really feel sorry for the poor people who live in such sad conditions. And it is quite hot at 38F.If thsi 38F is ina coastal area it is truly miserable..

kalav56 I can imagine with a season of unrelenting rain viral infections could spread. here in the Us in California where I am its very dry and veryhot. we have a room facing west so our room at 5 p.m is flooded with sunshine and heat.even the fan is not doing a lot of good here for some reason. I am not much of a water drinker but today I have been slugging it down to make up for so much sweating. wow. hope you fare well and do not pick up a virus. good luck and God Bless.

Thanks Hatley.I normally fall sick and have to work very hard and consciously to keep UTI at bay, when the sweating is intense.THis chronic infection had a go at me during the moonsoon also earlier.I dread it .That is why I hate humid weather; but, now it is rainy and the weather is not too bad.It is before and after the rains that weather tends to get ver y humid. Thanks and hope all is well at your end.

hi kalav, i do not have any worry about monsoon sickness,i could not say about children and others,i have stopped taking pills for any reason, that is common in India, instead taking pills,it is better to give some 6 black pepper seeds, two garlic pieces and some dal means (pappulu) eat them at once ,no throat infection or cough will touch you,i am using this for last 4 months nothing is there,i am ok ,have a nice day

It is winter here in Australia and we don’t have monsoon season as such but I can relate to the sickness that is going around. We have all had colds and coughs in the family and it goes away and returns. We all have ‘sniffly’ noses constantly and I am sick of feeling sick! I can hardly wait for summer... I guess monsoon sickness can be aggravated by infection from drinking contaminated water too so it certainly is wise to take care...

Yes Paula! Monsoon always brings in some sort of ailment or the other.Earlier,I was in the southern part of India where we had the northeast monsoon in October and Novemeber and here it is from July to Septemeber. But, this monsoon sickness peeps in everywhere.I hear that weather would be great in Australia after Novemeber. Thnaks for the participation

Hi kala, how are you? Yes in this season we will have such problems, most of the children effected cold and fever. This is only because of the poor monsoon, in the rainy season also we are getting heat. I am afraid if this continues then what will be the position in the summer?

damn right Kalav, My son has been having the soar throat lately. We gave him the antibiotics and cough syrups. This morning when I just thought that I would send him to school after a three day break, he suddenly stopped my heart by saying that he has a pain in the leg and can't walk. I didn't know the reason so I was more scared. but it seemed to have gone away after watching a little doze of cartoon. But I am still wondering, is the pain in the leg something I should worry about? I am going to the doctor just to make sure. bye. pray for us and you make sure that you stay healthy. :)

Yes you are right. The environment of this season is very bad for spreading viral disease. Precaution with the water we drink is a very good preventive measures to control over viral inaction. We need to be careful in taking food outside. Specially the food from the restaurant of unprotected area like footpath is very dangerous.

Food from restaurants is itslef slightly dicey. If we buy stuff from footpath shops then it it is worse. The hygiene in preparation may not be up to the mark.
