For several years i have used laptop. My laptop still functioning but it is somewhat hot and produce noise even just surfing internet. I rarely traveled with my laptop and used it in my room. So, i'm thinking of switching to desktop. I know they are cheaper than laptop, but buying hardwares and assembled it yourself are cheaper than both. So, what do you think, is it wise or just stick with laptop?

well if you or a friend know how to build a desktop, then that would be the best way. some times it just better to stick with what you have, but that's all a matter of how well your laptop is working and if you can deal with the issues that it has. i can say that I'm in the same boat as you. the only thing that i have issue with on my laptop is my sound card. that's the only reason that I'm think of getting a computer tower, or have one of my friends build one for me. it also depends on how much your wanting to spend. one thing that i would recommend is have it checked out to see if its cheaper to fix the problem (if it can be fixed) then to buy or build a new computer. well i hoped that this helped you out some what. have a great weekend and keep on mylotting.

be happy with what you got, great idea. Actually my laptop is not broken, hardwares working fine. It's just the AMD processor that makes it hot. I didn't research first before buying my laptop, my mistake. thanks for the advise, i will refer to my friends that have done assembled his own computers.

I suggest you should stick with laptop only, its much easier as I recently switched from desktop to a laptop, for home usage. The problems you listed like noise, heat is because you are using old technology. You can take laptop to any room in the house, you can use wifi, watch movies so close to the screen which is not possible in desktops. As far as price is concerned laptop prices are very close to the desktops unlike old days.Believe me in around 5 years desktops will only be found in large offices and companies.
