I was just listening to a news on TV about airing Pinoy songs. And what was said about preferring Korean songs and foreign songs to Pinoy music stuck in my mind. Also true that we tend to remember music if it is aired often. But in our country, we hear more of foreign songs and show preference for foreign songs. So airing Pinoy songs everyday for a number of hours may have its merits. What do you think?

I think so, too. My only wish is that they create really pinoy music though it might be difficult to identify what is really pinoy music having so many foreign influences.

That would be hard because the only distinct Filipino music that is truly our own is kundiman. Like in Latin America they have reggaeton, US got Hiphop, India has their bollywood songs, etc, etc, etc, I think it's time that we develop our own beat and music. Although it might be hard at first since our country is actually a mash up of all the world music. I think that if we must adapt a foreign music we should be doing it better than the original because if not people would just stick to the original.

Would you please elaborate what you want to say? I found it confusing. As far as I know, Filipinos eagerness to this foreign music are just seasonal. Before, about 1990s, boyband like 'nsync and backstreet boys are sensational and they have so many fans here in the Philippines. And after that, around year 2000 is the entering of asian tv series in the country and the taiwanese succeeded. Then the entering of variations like Korean and Japanese Dramas and most of the actors in the Asian Dramas are singers/dancers so they tend to magnetize the pop culture influencing their fans. Korean sensation wouldn't last that long.

It might not last long but when will it be the time for Filipino music to be in season when there is always a foreign sensations on the radio stations?

I also heard of this news about the airing of Original Pilipino Music on radio. I think radio stations are supposed to air at least 4 OPM songs per hour. An Executive Order in this regard was issued in 1987 by then President Corazon Aguino but it was not fully implemented during the succeeding administrations. It is about time that this Order is re-implemented. OPM songs contribute 4.25 percent to the country's Gross Domestic Product. OPM songs also promote Filipino arts and culture and help uplift the hopes of dreams of Filipinos.
