How has the economy affected your vacation plans this past summer?

We live in a rural area and our busiest time of the year is summer. The economy has slowed down here, but there still have been several families taking short vacations. Our plans are to take an extended vacation to Idaho real soon. We've never seen that beautiful state and we'll visit relatives.

I have lived always tried to live on some kind of budget even when we had money or time to spend. This summer we went to Las Vegas but I made notes of all the free places to go. We packed our own food to eat, drink, or snack on. The kids got a day at the pool, the rate was really cheap, and one day they got to spend at the amusement park on a whole day pass which was our splurge. The other time we packed up to go to the river. We took our cooler with food and drinks. The kids had a blast in the river. Totally free, except for the price of gas to get there. I would love to travel more but I know it takes money and right now everyone is hurting.
