Why don't you want to earn online?

We are frequently asked why we want to earn online and the answers are pretty predictable but what did you think about online earning BEFORE you started?
I have often spoken to friends about how one can earn money online but very often I've been told that they're not interested. Sometimes they clearly don't believe it's possible; sometimes they think that there is something 'dirty' or dangerous about it; most often they say that all the adverts they have seen are obviously false (and they have a point, certainly!). Sometimes, I think, people are just afraid of something new.
So what excuses have you been given when you ask people to join you as your referral or tell them that it's possible to earn money online? What excuses did you make before you finally took the plunge? What actually convinced you in the end and how did you convince somebody else to start earning online?

Some of the ones I can remember is that the pay is too low, and that you can't make enough money online anyway. Also that it would be illegal (????) and that all things online are scams. And often people just say that they don't know enough about computers or internet to do it.

I have heard the one about it being 'possibly illegal' several times. I think that this was at the time when there were several warnings in the press about the kind of mail where you send a dollar or so to six people and then send out 200 more letters with your address at the bottom of the list.
Sadly, this sort of thing is still going around, even though it's strictly illegal in most countries.
Things have changed a lot since then: there are so many more ways of making money quite well and legitimately (though, of course, there are still plenty of empty promises and outright scams about ... that will always be the case, unfortunately.)

In India actually aged persons are not much involved in online.Suppose my mother is busy with her Kicthen after retirement from Office job and father also busy in looking after the house.Aged People hardly here spend time infront of computer. They better time passed by watching TV or Gossiping with friends.

Hi,
When my friend first recommended me to this MyLot community,
I was bit shocked and can't believe that this website is so
good ,I can make some new friends around the whole, and sametime
I can earn some bucks in my pocket.
Is it true? I am still bit anxious on whether to join this community
or not? However, after my friends explanation and I was
telling myself, no harm to join and let it try myself.
So...that is how I am here now.
I have few referrals ,but I can say that I am not active in getting
new referral, I lies on myself for my payout everymonth.
I just try my best to give more responses on other mylotters'
discussions.
I am not good in marketing,so it is up to others whether they believe
in this website or not. I do introduce this website
to my bloggers' friends and the responses is not much,so I guess they
are not that interested and I also don't put much effort to promote
more.

I don't think that I have ever asked anyone to be a referral. The internet is my own little secret, an escapist world where I can be King or commoner as my whim takes me. My view of online earning has always been that nobody will be daft enough to pay me proper money for my thoughts and to date I have been proven right. If I wanted to sell widgets on a certain auction site I expect that I could make a few more pounds or dollars. myLot's difference is simply that they are honest and actually do reward me a little for my drivel. For that reason alone they stand out as a beacon in an otherwise dark and stormy sea. I discovered that I could make friends through this site and for me that has been worth more than any money. My daughter encapsulated what I suspect is the overriding view of many when it is suggested that she consider social networking - "but I've got a life Daddy"!! A lonely path, but one that I know and goes where I want it to. I know that I haven't really answered your question, however as a certain phone company says "it's good to talk".

I have frequently been told to "get a life" (in various ways, of course) by my daughters in particular. Yet who was it dragged me onto Facebook? At first I saw it as a place where I could see my dear daughters' photos and inane comments online (they have their own lives mostly now, I hasten to add!) Now I am beginning to see a few of the ways in which it can be made to pay.
P1kef1sh, I am sure I am not the first person to tell you that what you write (and the way you write) is worth a great deal more than MyLot pay if you know (or wanted to know) where to put it. Now, to give me some sort of answer, what are your objections and excuses to that? Be honest!
I actually persuaded a certain mutual crocodile friend of ours to publish a small book of 'pomes' with Lulu. I don't know if she made anything out of it but I'm sure she didn't lose anything. I wouldn't actually recommend Lulu except for specific purposes - and this was one of them - but, there, it's something to think about!

I rather thought (from something I saw on Facebook) that it was probably you that a certain croc, fairy and pirate were visiting (if I remember aright, it was the pandafish that posted that information).
I guess I should try and find you on Facebook, if you have no objection.

Funnily enough my own foray into the world of Facebook came about because my sister wanted to show me some holiday snaps. Since then I have become an aficionado of the site, in fact I spend more time there than any other place online.
You are kind and indeed I have been told that my writing might be worth a few pennies. Call it modesty (although I am far from that) but I have no idea where to aim my musings. Not Lulu I think, although having read the afore mentioned crocodile's poetry I am saddened that others haven't taken a punt on her. She came to see me on wednesday with two of her little crocs and a pair of snappers. I have no objection to receiving the folding stuff in return for a few words - I just find it very hard to believe that anyone is so flush with funds that they would bung some my way. I have written many things some of which are scattered about the internet. So far my financial return, myLot notwithstanding, has been 17 cents US! I may well have the price of a pint by time that I make my final stroll down the nave of my beloved Cathedral borne on the shoulders of chums anxious to dispatch me and set about a few pints of their own in my memory!!

I have quite a few referrals here but they have not been active for reasons best known to them. I always was interested in online earnings but there was always a condition that you pay something before starting on the activity. It was fine paying but they vanished from the scene once payment was made and that is what those that had paid came back and told me. myLot is the only site where although I came to be a part of the global interaction I was pleasantly surprised they pay for this activity without our having to pay anything! Through this media I have come across places where I can write and get paid and writing being my forte I want to take part in those activities which I have yet to do though.

The most frequent answer I got was there is a too small amount of money to earn, and it doesn't worth the effort. Some fellow told me he won't join me as my referral, because he could earn only the amount of money to pay the internet bill.
But, hey, this is just the start, I'm sure someone can earn more online! But you have to start from somewhere, don't you?

I get so annoyed when I hear that excuse about the internet bill, because it is not like these people would not have internet if they did not try to earn money online. The only case where this could be true I guess is if you pay for your internet access by the minute or something, but most people have broadbands these days, don't they? So then it is really a very poor excuse, if you ask me!
But yes, I have heard it too...

I have never been presented with the one about paying the Internet bill but it is one of the arguments that I try to use in favour of trying to earn online, especially if I can offer someone something that pays them for doing what they would be doing anyway. Sadly, that particular search engine has closed down ... but now we have MyLot Search!

A lot of people might think it's bogus. I know I did because of all of the scams and spam. Unfortunately there A LOT of online scam and that is a reason people don't believe in earning money online. When I actually did my research, I found a lot of legit websites that actually earned me money. I haven't tried to convinced people yet.

yes is true that in amny cases people don't believe in online earnings...in my opinion because they think about a fake system to earn some money and so they use to not believe in or simple online earning need much efforts to gain some decent money and not only some cents...and so during thsi period many people hasn't the mind to grow their earning and so they quit!!

You know, I often don't get a reason.. I think they all think I am nuts- even after they see my proof.. I think mostly they don't think they have the time. Yet they spend their time doing so many other useless things -I often wonder about their sanity. Seriously, playing some games to relieve stress I understand, But playing it for 2/3 of a day when you can be doing something to earn you money even with a small portion of that time. Sometimes concurrently.... I just don't get it.
And my friends that always have no money or are out of a job.. they don't even bother.. and I say WHY NOT? Usually the response I get is to JUST CHANGE THE SUBJECT. Oh well, I can only help so much those that do not WANT it. I offer to teach the tricks I have learned but I often can't get them past signing up under me. which is useless if they don't follow through.
Have I convinced anyone.. Yes I few have done a teeny tiny little bit on zazzle at my urgings and even sold some stuff. But I try to press that they need to continue to design things in order to increase their sales. they say yes they understand but they don't bother.. I guess they are all too rich... Even the unemployed one....

There is a class of people who are simply lazy and waste their time. It is the reason, of course, that they don't have any kind of job and that they will never earn a living or make money, whatever they attempt.
I am really appalled to hear about your room mate (in a comment above)! No doubt you have your reasons for tolerating him (and I don't expect you to explain) but my first reaction, as I'm sure you have heard from others, was "Throw the lazy @@@ out"!

I knew people could make money online and were in fact doing so. For some reason though sites I went to before were always scams. Through mylot I have been able to discover a whole wealth of knowledge about real sites that are not scams and I am happy to have finally begun my online money making.
However I have not done very well with referrals, I guess I don't like to bother people to much.

Referrals are not easy to come by, Aurora. MyLot is not for everyone, it seems, and even if you can find people interested enough to join, most of them lose interest quite soon. You are lucky if you get even 10% of those joining to stay. I think that the best way of getting good referrals is NOT to promote MyLot as a money-making site. The people who stay on here are those who appreciate it most for the social side, the information you can learn and, especially, those special people who enjoy writing and discussing!
MyLot is quite a good place to start learning about earning online, however. There are many people here doing many different things who are prepared to discuss the tips and pitfalls of whatever one is interested in doing.

I can't convince people to start earning online. I can only get people as referrals if they are already into earning online.
People who have never tried it before obviously think it's all scam. A few months ago I would have never believed that websites would actually pay you.
Anyway, getting referrals is so much hard work, I don't have the time to try to convince someone to join, and then actually stay active. Especially on mylot, they always sign up then never log in again.

If everyone can find good chances to make fortunes online, I think they won't have any thought to hesisate.
Although there are many people who have gained a good income online, most of them can only earn little cash. Besides, according to what I know, if you want to earn a living by earning on the Internet, you need to work hard and make the best iof your time to pay attention to your work.
That is to say, it is not easy to get success online, so, people tend to wait when others advise them to start earning online.

I have been hearing about this ONLINE earnings for a long time and like most people, was skeptical about it, you hear horror stories of people being scammed and you think this is just some one trying to rip you off. Well after checking on several sites some of which are so complicated (even though they say you don't have to be a computer expert) which I am not, and they are expensive too, I decided to try Mylot when it popped on my screen.
I decided I had nothing to lose and plenty to gain, and boy do I need the money. My husband can no longer work, he has renal failure and the additional medical expenses made me take this leap of faith into the online world. I am looking forward to good things, and my experiences will be the proof of the pudding, and I do love pudding. So here's to great success with ONLINE earnings.

I haven't really been given excuses, infact, several have become members and just didn't stay with it for long. I am very dissallusioned by most the referral system. I can't get anyone to do it! Excuses aren't the problem. They learn of the site and any moron can figure the site out of the referral html or whatever and just come to site on their own. It is frustrating.

I was also having apprehension about the reality of earning online. For me, it could be a scam of some sort and the only legit ones are to write article for a legit source. Moreover, I've no computer of my own to really spend time in the computer/WWW and find out the validity of my fear/apprehension.
Then, two years ago, i got connection. I was able to do trial and error regarding sites where they claimed I can earn. I really did not believe them but I did not have so much to do either, I was bored that I tried it anyway. And the rest is history.
Now, I am looking for more opportunity since going back to my regular job isn't possible yet...
Have a great Sunday to you, Owlwings.:)

Throughout my life, I have only been able to get three people to join money making sites. Most recently my cousin joined myLot. Besides that, no one seems to be interested although I've done okay when it comes to earning money. When I got hip to earning money on the Internet around 1989, I discovered that people were making money. When I began to look around (at first through lotteries - Free Lotto), I obviously was joined by the scammers who also seemed to begin to think up ways to get money. My first money making ventures was through writing stories and poems for online publications. When I looked further, I found the surveys. I never paid since I didn't have the money, but I was taken in by scammers who told you that you could start making money, but first you had to buy somebody's offer which went for page after page after page...
I finally found some good sites and told my uncle (an engineer who had "pyramid scheme" on the brain.) Most of my life, he had been a "get rich quick" kind of guy and so he always had a pyramid scheme for me to join. Of course I refused to join. So when money making sites proliferated on the Internet, I found some and asked him to join sites like Survey Saavy and MySurvey. My uncle has always been a "know it all" and never trusted my judgements, so of course, he wouldn't be convinced by me to earn money online.
