Sound of Music stirs Creativity

The strum of a guitar seems to be the sound of music to my ears, to my spirit, in so many ways. Odd, the guitar is not my favorite musical instrument, but it is the sound that seems to inspire me most. Listening to the strum of a guitar always ignites me to write a lyrical impression. Hence, I've included a poem I've written about just that topic. So I do hope you'll let me know what you think of my poem, Lyrical Impressions. My favorite instrument is the flute. What's yours? What instrumental sounds ignite creativity in you the most?

There was a time in university where I was really into spanish guitars. I found it very relaxing and very inspiring. It was also good for studying as it helps to keep my mind awake. And because most didn't have any lyrics, it kept me from the distraction of singing along while studying. Now and again I still listen to some.

Oh, you've reminded me of one of my favorites, which you can find on YouTube -- Gene Clark singing "For a Spanish Guitar". I agree with you that song lyrics interfere with concentration; the instrumentals are much more conducive to creativity; and, yes, would keep one alert, dependent, of course, on the rhythm and beat of the tune. Thank you for commenting!

I'm listening to Gene Clark right now. I imagine myself alone in a room with good speakers looking out the window as the sun is setting. Very appropriate music! Thanks for the BR!

I find that inspiration can come from a variety of sources. I really don't have one particular instrument that I find to be especially inspiring, but I do sometimes find inspiration in a variety of (often recent) music.

I surely agree with you that inspiration comes from many different sources. In fact, I can't keep up with all the inspirational muses in my life, hahaha! And yes, music in general will do the same for me, dependent upon my mind-frame.

I probably would be most inspired by piano music, hearing songs that my sister used to play. Things that stir my memories of childhood tend to knock loose some poetic inspiration and get me creating. I love guitar, however, and again, some of that goes back to the "cowboy music" my uncle used to play in the evenings. Goodness, things were different when we did not have all the electronics. Guitars make me think of hot weather.

I so agree with you that memories are the most inspiring for creativity. You reminded me of family barbecues where my brother would play guitar and my uncle would sing gospel songs. Family fun around a fire. And yes, things were definitely different for me before the computer arrived on my desk!
