Would you like to change the display order of discussions?

I follow the discussions guidelines and when I have an ideea of a new discussion, I search for a similar existing one. Sometimes I found there actually is such a discussion (or even more), but they are few years old. I would like to add a comment there and to find more answers, but who will answer a few years old discussion? That's why I would like to have the opportunity to change the display order of the discussions, so that the new comments appear on the first positions.
Did something like this happen to you?
Do you think it would be a good ideea to change the display order of discussions?

If you add a response or a comment to an older discussion it will reappear in the 'recent' tab and in the 'similar discussions' column on the right.
I feel that changing the order of the responses might confuse the issue because often a later response makes some reference to something said in a previous one. I am happy with things the way they are now.

The 'recent' tab displays the most recent discussions that have received any activity on the whole of myLot, regardless of which interest they appear in and how old the discussion is.
Have you tried using the search to find discussions about a particular topic? There you would be able to see if there are particular users interested in the specific topic nad you could post on their discussion. If you notice that they comment back regularly you can be almost certain thatthey have their notifiedrs on and would be aware of your response.

Of course I search old discussions about a particular topic, that's what we are talking about - old discussions, right?
If the old users are still here, they'll get those notifications and maybe they'll answer. But what about they aren't here any more? Who will answer then?

Some of the older Lotters till keep responding/commenting on older topics (if they can relate to them obviously).
You can see whether a user is still active by ckecking at the bottom of their profile for the time that they last logged in.
If you were to respond on one of my old discussions I would acknowledge you immediately. Of course I have no idea what others do but I think that the majority do seem to forget that there are even topics older than a day

Hello inu,
I use to have the habit of hitting the search button first before create my own discussion so that I make sure I don't make a similar or duplicate discussion. But I guess some members are not like that so they would just start discussion without minding that there are existing topics already. I have experienced that already, my own discussion would have similar discussion. And now, I finally accepted that fact, and sometimes, we can't prevent similar discussion as we might have the same mind waves with others and anyway the discussion flows differently. Sometimes, I would still hit the search button but if I find the first discussion a little too old, i would just start my own, anyway not all is responding to old discussion. I do make comments on old discussions, just like earlier, I commented on some old topics but I don't really mind the display order. It's just fine with me.

Oh, you really do comment on old topics. This topic of mine is one year old. I almost forgot about it.
Back then, I had time to search for older topics and to worry about starting a similar topic. Now I barely have time to comment on my friends' discussions. I realized that this is the most important thing in myLot: to stick together with friends.
I was already a lousy discussion starter but now, when I have less time to spend in myLot, it is worse. I don't even remember when I started my latest discussion and what was it about. (err, let me try: was it about dogs? )

Like you have stated here, with the older discussions that you or others respond back too, it would be nice if the New responses could be first, but actually am Glad they keep them the way that they do when they are newer. I think overall, most of the time people do tend to not want to respond back when someone posts back on an older discussion, but overall it could be interesting topics as well that might make you think about a New discussion to start as well.

There is a chance that if you start a repeated topic you might be reported for duplicate discussion.
On the other hand, there may be users who comment back responses to older discussions (like this one) but I'm afraid most of them remains without any reaction from the discussion starter.
I think the best solution is to start finding an answer into an old discussion, then, if no response, start a new discussion on the same topic.

hi inju1711 you would be surprised at how often one of my older discussions gets some new responses and thats what makes mylot so
different, it will bring my old discussion up front again and perhaps other will come to respond too. I think like Diana that changing the order now would be more confusing. I think we need to keep mylot in its own unique self. I find myself making a discussion that was triggered from some really old discussion but is really not at all a remake of that old discussion. So I have no problems of using someone elses work as my discussion is all my own ideas and words too. Lets just keep mylot as it is and avoid confusion that way.

Hi Hatley, it's nice you comment back the new responses that you get on your old discussions. But, as Apriljess said before, many of the old users aren't here anymore. Who will answer my question then?
Maybe your ideea of 'remaking' an old discussions by changing the way it looks is good, but what if it gets reported and deleted? I really don't want to break the rules here, you know.
If there were the posibility to choose the display order, it wouldn't be confusing. Everybody would use the default display order, and who would want to change it - let them change it.

well.., i do see your point here.., but i don't actually check for similar discussions before starting a discussion myself.., if a topics pops into my head.., i immediately start a discussion.., but yes.., your suggestion is good and can make it easier for us to identify which discussions are the latest one..=)

Thank you deve_annrn, it feels good to find another person who thinks as I do. Because the first three answers I got had different oppinions from mine, I thought maybe I was wrong. I respect others oppinions even if they don't coincid with mine. But even if I was wrong, I still think it would be usefull to have such an opportunity to change the display order of discussions.
