Program. This has to be my problem. Lately it takes at least 5-7 minutes for my PC to boot up and be able to log on to anything. I don't have that much stuff on it, only one software game, and basically just the essentials so my hard drive is just barely half full. This was all doing fine, then one day it started this. I have done the CCleaner, and SpyBot and Avg and several other things like Defrag and scans etc. But nothing helps. I turn it on and literally you can hear the "rolling" sound inside the tower of it doing whatever it is that it is doing to start up. My start up task menu doesn't have anything but necessities on it. But just sitting there waiting... it is to the point it is almost like I have to set my alarm for 5am so I can wake and turn it on so it is ready for me to use by 7am!
I have heard about PC Registry programs and don't have any experiencein the registry area and don't like to mess with what I have no clue about.. but a store bought program should be okay if all I have to do is install it. If the prices are the same, I prefer store bought so I have the disk if I need to reinstall and things like that.
What is your favorite PC Registry cleaner program? Which have you heard is the best and what is your experinece with it all? Thanks very much!

I only use ccleaner, it cleans your drive and fixes the registry and have some tweaks and extras. And what I really like about it is it's FREE! I don't think it is the best REGISTRY cleaner, but I am not having problems using it.

I do that every time just before I shut down. It never finds anything. That is good of course, but I still have this boot up problem. I can't figure it out and nothing helps it. I have even checked with my ISP carrier and nothing there either. I am not exaggerating on the time it takes. Do you have any suggestions other than registry cleaner? It is the only thing I have not tried, other than Geek Squad and I can't afford that.

You are right! Ccleaner is very good. It fixes registry error in just a few seconds! I could also delete cookies, internet caches and unused files instantly. This program is far better and faster than the disk cleanup.

Hello coffeebreak....
First of all you might be having many startup applications in your system,
so delete them from your startup list.
If this doesnt help then check your processor speed
and see whether it is not heating up more than 50C.
Sometimes processor temperature affects system performance.
Also delete your temporary files that resides in 2-3 locations in C drive.
If you are looking for best registry cleaner then try
Registry mechanic 9.0.0.128 Its the best up to my knowledge....

I did check the start up list and very few things there but did delete a cookie tracking thing. Processor speed...how do I check that? Heat... okay, gotta say that could be it...it has been hot lately but I have a small fan on it just in case out of common sense...all that rolling around in a closed tower.. heat is sure to follow.
Temp files - where else do I look? I use CCleaner every time I shut down.

if you are using windows 7 go to
c:/users/(admin user)/app data/local/temp
Ccleaner does not delete these temporary files, they accumulate lot of space in memory.
You can check your processor speed by observing how much percent it is been used. Normally it should be less than 50%.
If your processor is heating, open the heat sink apply some paste and clean it with blower. Then your processor will start running lightning fast again....

I use System Mechanic for everything, except that I do not install the anti virus that comes with it as I'd rather use Kaspersky for that. But System Mechanic fits my needs for defrag of memory and disk and registry maintenance and optimization and all that and they support up to 3 computers per license and the renewal has been 1/2 price for the past few years. BTW, thanks for the BR :-)

I would suggest you, not to use these so called "Registry Cleaners". As we know that, the system registry is something, that not everyone can deal with, how do you think that a "program" can do this for you?
Any program (in this case registry cleaners) is written once (untill the next upgrade is released) but the applications that we install on our computers change everyday, if something goes bad, you will end up formatting your computer. I feel that you are using either Windows XP or Windows 2000. There is an option while installing (either of these operating systems) from the CD, where you can override the already installed OS, after re-installation you will have to re-install the applications on your computer but all the other files will be there in place. Your hard drive will not be formatted.
However, if you are keen to use any of the above mentioned registry cleaners, make sure that you take a back up of the system registry before making any changes in it. This will help you to perform undo the changes in the system registry, in case, if anything goes wrong.
Taking registry backup is nothing but to export the the system registry to the .reg file on your computer. Make sure that while exporting the file, you select the "All" option at the bottom of "Save as" dialog box.
Hope this will help you!
