Nurses as volunteer, do you agree?

Hi fellow mylotters. I just wanted to share my experience as a nurse. I studied 4 years in college in order to get my Bachelor's Degree. I attended my review classes and take up the Nursing Board Exam to obtain my license. It is really hard to be a certified "Registered Nurse". I undergo post-graduate trainings to improve my credentials. I send my application to a tertiary hospital, passed their exams and interviews. I undergone 2-weeks orientation and they told me and my fellow nurses that we will have our training allowance during our 6-weeks training period on their hospital. We are all so disappointed when we found out that we are their first batch of volunteer-trainee nurses. That means we are not getting paid on our duty and we are not getting any certification if we finished the training. Do you think it is fair for the nurses to be a volunteer, not being paid for the sacrifices and even for those overtimes??

I disagree.Sad to say that here in the Philippines it is the scenario in the life of being a nurse. You will undergo volunteer work for 6 months and if ever you are qualified they will hired you.I have my co-nurse who already work as psychiatric nurse for 2 years, but when he transfer to a tertiary level hospital,he was told that,he will undergo as trainee for 6 months.

This is extremely wrong, right? And what I really is that I undergo on their application process and we were told that we are going to get paid for our work and then in the middle of our training, we found out that we are also volunteers. Oh I really hate this system in the Philippines. They are so unfair with nurses.

We nurses always wanted that this scenario will be change, but nobody listens to all our complains.I do hope the government will talk and had also made a law for this.Yes it is really unfair, working without pay.

We have no other choice but to accept it. I just take it as a learning experience but what is really disappointing is the fact that I am already a registered nurse but I still cannot help my family with the financial matters. :(
