What did you think about this fight?
It was impressive for two reasons.
1. Chael Sonnen's complete dominance of Anderson Silva from Round 1 to Round 5.
Everyone suspected that Sonnen could take Silva down, but no one expected him to give Silva problems in the stand up as well. In spite of Silva's previous lackluster fight against Damien Maia, he was still considered by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. For Sonnen to completely dominate Silva for 4 1/2 rounds on the ground, and give him problems standing up says a lot about Chael Sonnen. He delivered on everything that he said he would do.
2. Silva's amazing comeback in Round 5 with only minutes to go.
Every so often, you will see a UFC special on Spike called "Greatest Comeback Fights," and there have been a lot of great comeback fights, but Silva/Sonnen may possibly be the best ever. There were a lot of Sonnen fans who were disappointed with the final outcome. Some fans were fed up with Silva's antics in his previous fight with Maia and wanted to see him go down. Whichever way you were going, if you were watching UFC 117, you were treated to one of the most dramatic and thrilling finishes in recent UFC history. After shockingly being shut out for each and every round, it appeared that Silva was about to lose his title. With only minutes left in the 5th and final round, Silva managed to catch Sonnen in a triangle choke, surprisingly causing Sonnen to tap out. Within minutes of the conclusion of the fight, online fight forums and MMA websites everywhere where abuzz with the news.
Several of my favorite sites crashed and were not available until the next day. That's the kind of impact this fight had.
Because of the dominant performance Sonnen displayed that night, many believe there should be an immediate rematch. Some say he should have to fight Vitor Belfort next.
If he fights Belfort what do you think the outcome would be?
If Sonnen beats Vitor and gets a rematch with Silva, what should be do differently?

Thank you for sharing by the way. I guess you have said it all. You already mentioned everything that made that match so interesting, so exciting and so good to watch over and over.
I am not a huge UFC fan but I do watch it at times. Before the match even started, I never heard of both guys. All I know is the the big bald guy is the champion and the other one is the contender. It amazed me to watch how fearless Chael Sonnen was every time he attempts to take down Anderson Silva. It was so tiring to watch two guys just hugging and tackling each other in the mat. I was expecting punches, kicks, etc. I really thought after round 4 that Chael Sonnen will win the match. But I was wrong. If the final bell hasn't sounded yet you could not really tell who would win the match. Chael Sonnen was just a minute away, imagine a minute away from victory . But Anderson Silva just overpowered him and made him tap. He was even quite surprised and looked like he didn't believed that he tapped. but he's caught on replay. I felt so bad for him.
In my opinion, I don't think Chael Sonnen needs to fight that Vitor Belfort to get a rematch with Silva. Don't you think how he fought with Silva in the first match is enough to prove to the promoters, etc. that he gives and pours his best out? He really deserves a rematch with Silva with or without fighting another opponent to get a rematch.
