Heya folks,
Have you ever suffered from this situation? When you're made to sit on the first bench in an exam.
Well I have been to this situation very often and seriously it sucks.
The invigilator is always focussed on you, you cant move much and
cant ever think of peeping into your neighbour's answer sheet.
So have you ever been to this kinda situation?
Please share your experiences..!! :)

Hi smilepleeeaz,
I have always been a volunteer front row person. What does it matter if you chose to sit on the front row or you were chosen, by the teacher, to sit on the front row. If you know the material, you just relax, stay focused, and take your exam without giving the teacher any reason to suspect that you are up to no good, like attempting to looking at your neighbor's paper. Sitting on the front row should only bother you, if your inappropriate intentions have been spoiled. Otherwise, I don't see the problem.

Hi Angelgirl
Well, I agree with you that if you are well prepared for a subject it dont really matters for you that where you sit.
But still I feel there are bad times too when you cant prepare nicely due to some reason and so you have to stress a lot on your mind to recall things. At such times when an invigilator is constantly roaming around you and you notice him staring at you and reading your sheet ,i dont think its much friendly environment for anyone to do his exam nicely. I just starts missing my words and becomes nervous. Its really hard to concentrate.
And at such time you'll realize that if you have been seated somewhere else , it would be better.
So cheating is just not the reason that sitting on first bench sucks, there are plenty of it.
Well thanks for your response.
Take care :)

Hello, Smile.:)
Why do you feel uncomfortable? Most male students hate that, ei? :)
No, I never had such problem when I was still a student like you. I love sitting in the front rows. If it is not alphabetically arrange, I'd prefer a sit which is nearer or facing directly the prof's table. Yes, he might be throwing a glare on me but he for sure isn't suspicious that I am going to cheat.:) Heck, that's the thing, I don't cheat so there's nothing I should feel nervous about being in the front row. Prepared or not during the exam, I hate sitting at the back.:(

Oh, well. That means you're not one of those regular college guys, then. :) I'm glad to hear such a thought from a guy like this. LOL
Yeah, that could be a problem , indeed, if you are too observant. Just try to be early so that you can get a seat of your choice. :)That is if you are to be given that choice.:)
Have a great day, Smile.:)

Hello, eureka.. :)
Yeah I agree that most of us hate it but we have got some reason for it.
Oh well, cheating is not the only reason for hating sitting on first bench,
its just one of the many others.
I too dont cheat or should I say, not very good in it.
But thing is that I cant concentrate much when I am sitting very close to the teacher and finds him staring at my answers, I just cant concentrate then & starts missing my words. And also all the happenings in class like movements of teachers, peons , principals etc also distracts me from the exam .
Also I hate sitting in front doesnt mean i love sitting at back. I prefer to sit in the middle ones which are the safest I guess. You escape both the annoying teachers in front and annoying cheaters in back
So I just dont like to sit on the first bench in exams.
Thanks for your response.
Take care:)

No because I love sitting in front during exams. It makes me feel great when I'm the first one who finished the exam and when I stand, everybody will look at you and murmur how you finished the exam that fast.
But unfortunately, being fast will not boost your grade it will only give you more attention during exams.

Oh well siting in front has its own advantages I agree but I wont take a chance just for a temporary popularity that is gained when you first finish the exam and everyone wonders how.
And sometimes finishing the exam early can bring you some negative popularity too , like others will think that you must not be knowing much thats why you finished so early.
So everything has two sides.
Anyways thanks for your response.

Hi smilepleeeaz, I m kaushik , n i think that there is some benefit to sit on the 1st bench during exam. Its like that invigilator always want to make focus on every body from 1st bench to last bench. But the benefit is that as a thif always think about police in the same proses one invigilator always care about the last bench than the 1st bench.so I think that there is less curicity in front bench couse that is his or her in front . he or she always curious about the last bench which is in not full vision

Hi Kaushik.
Well yes I agree that there are some advantages of it, but that would be being too optimistic according to me.
Invigilator keeps eye on last benchers thats true, but front benchers also cant escape from him.
I dunno whether you experienced it or not , but most of the invigilators have this bad habit of staring in the answer sheets of students especially the ones sitting in front, and i tell you, this is really annoying.
You cant focus yourself in such kinda situation, or could you?
Also last benches aren't that much secure I agree as thats the main area of attention for every teacher.
So to play safe, opt for a middle one if given a choice.
Thanks for your response.
Take care :)

Hi...I know how it feels. It used to happen to me. I could write anything when my professor or teacher used to stare at me or stand next to me. Once i even told her that i cant concentrate with you standing next to me.

Yes exactly, thats what annoys me the most. I starts missing my words when I find the invigilator standing beside me and staring at my sheet.
Lol.. Bravo..!!
but I never got the guts to tell the teacher this thing, you must be really gutsy!!
Thanks for your response.

hahahaha....I always love to sit on the first bench...it doesn't mean I'm extraordinary or unsocial:P...but I just like it...it makes me confident..
I usually never peep or try to consult with my neighbors so its easy for me...lol it doesn't mean I always care about ethics or norms...actually the truth I am not good in peeping...I think its an art and not everybody is good in it...and I'm one of those unlucky guys who can't peep or consult because I don't know why all factuality members and investigators likes me and they always try to follow what I'm doing..Moreover..I can;t hear whispering...it sucks....you rock guys who have this art ....
But still i love to sit in front...because when I was a child my mom always told me that I creates good impressions and I always tried to be a good student and favorite of my teachers...but Is not always good when I see that I don't know the answer of a particular question but my friends sitting beside me are writing with full concentration...that time I course me for not having this quality...
trust me its an awesome quality and state of art...lolzzz..:P:P

Yes its a good habit to sit on the first bench in school, atleast we are taught so by our parents. You get to know each and everything that has been taught very clearly.
But in an exam I dont think its such a good idea to go with this good habit.
Also it doesnt always mean that if you're desiring not to sit in front then you are planning to cheat. There are someother reasons also. Ofcourse cheating is just one of those many other reasons.
Although I too dont even cheat much in exam, or should I say I am not that good enough in this art, just like you.
But still I dont like to sit in front because I find it quite distractive location.
I hate when I notice teacher roaming around me and staring my sheet. I cant concentrate like that.
Also the happenings in classroom also keeps on distracting me like some people move in & out.
Oh well, I trust you, Art of Cheating in Exam is really a god gifted one and I too regret of not mastering it.
Thanks for your response.

In my case, i don't like to sit in the front too but the invigilators seem to keep their eyes on the ones who are seated at the back most part of the classroom. It is actually a little easier to sit in the front and cheat, not if the invigilator is too near to you but yes it is easier if you are seated in a large auditorium type of classroom, or at least if we are more towards the front rather than the back.

Well I never found it easier to sit in the front and cheat. May be I am lacking some this art.
But invigilator although keeps his eye on last benchers still we cant escape him sitting in front. So I think its not such a good idea to sit in the front and cheat.
Thanks for your response.

I like it when I sit in the first row in an examination. I dont like sitting at the back cause its not really comfortable for me. When I am in the first row or at the "bench" as you say, the invigilator doesnt really focus on you but to the people at the back cause they are aware that people at the back would always do that.
@smilepleeeaz (784)

Well when i say that I hate sitting on front bench or "row" as you say, I does not mean that I love to sit in the back only. There is so much in between, isnt it?
Also cheating is only one of the many other reason for which I hate sitting on first bench. Other reasons are that I cant concentrate as there is so much going in front of me, the teacher keeps on roaming around me, staring at my sheet and what I am writing. The also there is always some persons like peons etc that are coming and going in the class for different purposes and I have a hard choice whether to concentrate on my exam or witness the scenes happening in front of me.
So I prefer to sit not at the front most bench , so as to escape all this situation and concentrate on my exam well.
Thanks for your response.

If I have a choice of where to sit, I would opt for the front seat. Honestly I enjoy sitting in front left in peace and not being easily distracted my movements in people in front if I were to sit at the back.
@smilepleeeaz (784)
• India
23 Aug 10
Well I dont find the front seat that much peaceful place. Although there is no student in front of you whose movements can distract you but there is always a teacher roaming around you , whose movements are just annoying.
Also your sheet is first to be snatched away by teacher the moment time runs out while the students sitting behind you get some extra time to write and this is such
a bad feeling, i bet you.
So first bench not such a good idea for me during exams.
Thanks for your response tomi.

I am like most and prefer way in the back, but if I made to sit in the front it makes for me to get done quicker, as the last thing I would want is for all others who are behind me to turn in their exams and all have to walk past me wondering what the heck is taking me so long.
@smilepleeeaz (784)
• India
23 Aug 10
Well yes, this another disadvantage of sitting in front. If you took a bit long, you will feel that everyone who is walking out is noticing you and thinking you are really dumb taking too long to finish.
So to escape this kinda embarrassment you would try to be quicker which is good but you may miss out some questions in hurry sometimes , so wont be such a good idea lately.
So conclusion is sitting on first bench in exams sucks.
Thanks for your response.
Take care :)

Yes even i hate it also because i can't get to copy or look at some one else 2 see how they are doing or even i can't even ask someone a pencil, eraser or something else also. I hate it because the examiner's eyes are always on me. I can't even bend my head or ask for some water.
WORST OF ALL I CAN'T COPY.
Oh well my bad...hope you have better luck than me...
Cheers!

Well yes, first bench is like hell for someone who is having the intentions for cheating in exam.
But I hate it much because I dont seem to concentrate sitting on first bench as the teacher is always curious to know what i am writing and whether I am following all the guidelines.
So I cant concentrate much sitting on first bench and hate it.
thanks for your response.

me i love sitting in the front bench in exam because we you are sitting at the back, your concentration will deteriorate as there will be your friends who will be asking you answers hiding frmm the examiner ofcourse. i know that i would do the same thing when i dont know an answer. but personaly i dont like cheaing and i have never ever cheat in any exam in my life i swear god for what iam saying. since i always prepare everything for exam i prefer to sit on front or first bench to put everything i have in mind on paper without disturbance. the reslt is inever failedin any subject throughout my student life.

Oh well, really nice to know that you have never failed ever in any exam. You must be really a brilliant student and probably a gifted one, but not everyone can be like you. We average people also have to survive in this world.
By the way , when I Say i hate first bench it doesn't mean I love last bench.. there are some middle seats too which are more comfortable then why fight for extremes.
Also I dont like to cheat in exam but sometimes you just need a lil help and that lil help can help you a lot but you cant get, thanks to the first bench.
Anyways, thanks for your response.

smilepleeeaz, I'm lucky that I haven't come across such situation to sit on the first bench in an Exam so far. The exam identifier or serial number is given to us according to the alphabetical of our last name. The first alphabet of my surname is L, therefore I would never have the chance to sit on the first bench. I agree that the invigilator wouldn't see clearly those candidates who sit in the middle and the back in the examination room.
Other than the chief invigilator there are usually another assistants to help the chief to take care of the candidates if the exam is held in a big hall with more than hundred and twenty or so candidates. The invigilators would walk around to monitor and help the candidates if there is any need like ask for extra writing scripts and and so on. Sitting exam in a large hall is rather easy for those who tend to steal a glance from others answer sheet I suppose Of course one must be very careful to see whether there is any cctv around before peeping lol.....
Happy posting!

Yes. I have been in that situation as well and it really sucks! I can still remember that day like it was yesterday. It happened back in 2007 where I was seriously having a difficult time with my math class. It was the final examination and I was late. I had no choice but to sit on the first bench and worse, right infront of the teacher. She was just a feet away from me. For sure I don't have any access to cheat nor to even peep at someone else's test papers because my face is straightly infront of the invigilator. It was the worse exam ever. I know its my fault for not studying well.
P.S: I actually failed in the exam and the whole class. Oh well, Lesson learned.

Yes, I do hate sitting at the front. It just feels too....open and as if you're right in front of a dangerous animal or something - makes me extra nervous as if I wasn't nervous enough about the exam.
There isn't much chance for me to cheat whether or not I sit in the front desk since all the desks are spaced evenly in such a way that it's hard top see your neighbour's paper without actually leaning your head towards them.

In my mind, the teacher always pay attention to those students who sit on the back of the classroom, when you sit on the first bench, the teachers will think you do not dare maks mistake! But I also do not like to sit in the front of the classroom in an exam, especially it is a listening exam!O(n_n)O~

First of all, why would you want to peek in your seatmate's paper? Anyway, I agree with you and feel your sentiments though. I'm the kind of student who doesn't know how to keep still on his seat and I just have to move a lot. Sometimes I slouch, I cross my legs, etc. There's this one time when I was seated at the front row and I slouched, our professor asked me to sit up straight because I might have a cheat sheet with me. I instantly thought, 'who needs to cheat in this kind of exam?' It still irritated me though.
Anyway, I think you should always be prepared for your exams so that you wouldn't have any problem wherever you're seated. And you need not look at other people's paper.
