The thing is... the Aquino Gov't would like to change the basic education of the Philippines from 10 years to 12 years. Now, when I talk to people... they all seem to be against this... but for me its a good thing. I think it will be beneficial for the youth of the country.
1. Instead of job requirements like "At least 2-3 years of college", it can be "At least a High School Graduate" again.
2. Basic Education will now have time to provide "Basic Education" and skills like carpentry, welding, automotive, and more. (I wish I could have learned this from high school)
3. The cost of 2 years of high school is much cheaper than 2 years of college.
4. Immediately after graduating high school, a person can apply for work and not be discriminated.
5. and a lot more..^_^v
I can't seem to see anything bad to this. How about you?

I think that making the whole twelve years as basic education is good for all those things that you pointed. Those two years will be cheaper, students will be enriched much more than before and they could apply for work.
BUT, those people which are not interested in studying, those extra two years means to them just another two years of slacking and getting off school.
So what good does it going to bring? I really think that it is not useful, people who want to study will work hard and get in the 11th and 12th year and those who are not interested in studying will just fall off the system.

I think that kids in the Philippines "slack off" because academics is not their strong point, but, if education can include skills development then kids may have more interest going to school. For me... 12 years is a must because it will soon be or it is already a standard around the world.

It already is a standard in the world, you know how hard it is to find a good job which does not include much of physical stress without graduation?
Moreover people who did not graduate are usually caught as stupid people and therefore suffer bad reputation by the society.
People might not respect you just because of that, thinking "that guy is too stupid for me".
So graduation of twelve years at school is not just for getting a comfort job place but also helps you socially.

Yes i agree with you. It is time for us to restudied our basic education system and do the best we can to catch up for our backlogs on skills and knowledge. If we can do this in the right way and right timing, then I don't think people could say more and stop complaining before anything has been done.

It seems to be a good move. You are sure of employment. And you are aquiring real life skills carpentry,welding.....Even if you don't do well in academics you can rely on these skills to earn money. They are useful in our day to day life.I think they are good and of practical use too.

I think the President is really trying to make everything that he could to improve our situation here in the Philippines. I think its a good idea that those courses are going to be offered in school. But something is bothering me, are they even sure that there will be jobs for these people after they graduate?
