Friends, we may not accept it ,but internally we all know that we are not exactly what we show to this world.......Our personality that is visible to the world is to some extent an artificial presentation with adjustment to please the society and create pleasant image of ourselves. But deep inside ,our thoughts are different , our desires are different. or personality is different. This real self of ours will always remain a secret and will go with us to our graves. How do you feel about this false life that we are living.......makes life meaningless....what do you all think about this, please share.

I don’t think we are leading a futile life by just concealing our true personalities from others…I think it’s a survival of fittest and though civil society is not exactly a jungle in blood and gore, it can no less be messy enough if we let down our guard with everybody. Also think of the situation if all the negative feelings which we harbor about others, come out into the open! It would be impossible to co-exist and get any work done at all. What you say as pretense, I think its just good manners, etiquette, decorum and adjustments to others around us…after all, we cant lead a lonely existence so we have to adjust somewhere in between and move ahead along with everybody.

I haven’t gone thru any of the above responses, I never do, if I had, be sure I wouldn’t have unnecessarily increased the length of responses here BTW, this topic itself has been discussed and debated in different ways by different people here

Thanks for this nice topic...whatever you said it very true... We all have many faces...what I believe is..how many people we know or get to contact we have thats many faces to show off. And we do it amazingly that all our personalities go in parallel... In our heart theres always a beast living...but we very carefully give it a cover and make us so polite and gentle....In our mind I don't know how many times we want to break our rules, regulations that are exposed to us to make us perfect human being. But actually we always carry our naked face covered with a colorful manifesto....we are different at home, so much different at workplace....we are o loving and caring to our loves, children and that much rude to our subordinates...its all about relation, status, power and hierarchy...our main personality, our inside, our thoughts, desires, hope, fear everything is ruled by this hierarchy...in each step of this hierarchy we have different face under the same name, and address... We follow the peel off theory...in different situation we just peel off...change our color, fragrance, appearance and become the part of that drama. Everything we are doing is a part of big drama...we are just actor and actress...and the main director is leading us from behind and the whole universe is the spectator...

Hello soulshine.......well now that was an excellent explanation and I felt as if I was listening to my own heart, my own opinion. At least you accepted boldly that there is a hidden beast inside all of us..... I am sure there is also an angel inside most ruthless person in the world, but it is just matter of confusion of our real and virtual personalities. Thanks for nice reply and understanding.

People always know me as a gregarious, happy go lucky person who is so touchy too. And the best part of it that is what really I am. I just cannot act for sure. People take me as I am .I don’t know to scheme and manipulate others with a different face or mask. Well we all have to mask our own feelings at times in the name of decency, etiquette and the place and situation we are in. I think that it is necessary as a human being as we have evolved to this level to have some rules in life.

My dear Bala, I am also talking about the second part of your reply. Mask of our own feelings...., feelings that we want to express, but we cannot, because it may be shocking for people around us and it will be embarrassing for us....for example..... meh agar kahu tumsa hasi, kayanat meh nahi hai koi.....toh.... toh log kehege apsara pagal ho gayi hai. aur Bala diwana... ab kuch samjhe na tum......!!!!!!

Hi Apsara! You are right in the sense that we have got two different personalities, at least, one which is our public face and another is our private face. We just cannot reveal our private face to our public figure or at a public place. We live in a civilized society, therefore, we are supposed to behave in decent and cultured manner, regardless what we think about a situation or a person in our mind. You cannot call it a false life, which you or I are living, everyone does like it. It is just not possible for us to know what others think about us, deep in their mind and its vice versa is also true. I started a similar discussion, few weeks ago,you may like to see it: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2345664.aspx

Hello Deepak, nice to see you. Yes you are right, we have no choice but to live with this double personality system and in a way it is good, because I think when two people come to know more about each other, there is a kind of clash, like between all married couples. I will have a look at your discussion.

No, I do not think we are actor,s in this script of god. Infact we doesnot know how to act at all. whatever we do is just not an action, Infact it is a reaction of some others action.

yes I agree, but our reactions are not always our decisions......like sometimes we hear something and are shocked or surprised, but immediately , we change our feeling and behave normal in front of others. There are lot of such examples......we live for others and don't even know what is living for our own self.

Shakespeare said this "All the world is a stage". I agree. How I act for one person is different for another. We all wear many hats.

everybody is different and they act differently with each other...in different situation, for different relation...but there is also a saying..' persons who are not successful are same but who are successful in there life...are unique'....so whatever we act are somewhat same according to our status or level...

Well, I agree that we don't show our real faces most of the time to others. That's why people is so difficult to trust. Many people are not prepared to know the truth, so it might be better for them to live surrounded by masks. In my case, I prefer to know it from the very first moment, so I often wish that there were less masks

I wish we all could know from very first moment the real face of the opposite person.....don't you think this could be one reason for so many breakups and divorce.

That is also what I find mysterious about us. Sometimes we have different character that would only show up in seldom cases. Sometimes I would say, you know I am a great actress that would someone believe my acting. Sometimes I would wonder what is really my character, huh.. What a mystery in my own self.

hello ada8may21, you are right, life is so complicated and mysterious. Yes it happens many times that when our artificial qualities clash with our real hidden self, it surprises people as will as us...and comments like are something like this "Have you gone mad"!!! or."what is wrong with you today."!!!! and we just smile as we also don't know what is happening

We have to do what we thinking in our mind. We don't act differently from our thoughts. It will creates a great confusion. We all have great goals, We are trying to share our valuable thoughts, with our friends/family, If they have interestless, we stop our talking about our goals with them. But it is better to make a different world with 5to 10members of our welwishers, in our heart we have to imagine them, and we have share with them only....

You are right, if we want we can behave as per our inner self, but I think we will not feel very comfortable as it will separate us from common behavior acceptable by human society. Thanks for your reply.

From the time we are born we are socialized or formed into roles that society expects us to play. Many times when we attempt to unleash our true selves into the society we live in we are tagged as antisocial or socially inept. We are literally learning and practicing for the roles we play. Mother, father, sister, brother, lawyer, doctor, husband, wife, priest etc... Many believe that life is indeed an illusion in today's society. The new homeowner that is so proud of purchasing their own home and realize that it can be lost to bank if we don't pay on time. Also, the proud owner of a brand new sports car showing off in front of his/her friends only to have it repossessed a few months later. Your right, life can be considered a stage where we are all actors.

Hello ptower, I agree with you. This world is a big stage and we play our roles and one day leave and disappear forever. Sometimes I think, is it right to bring life in this world. we don't come to this world by our choice, but later on whole life we have to do this acting. There has always been some occasion where we get irritate and ask ourselves.....why the hell was I born??????. so again I want to ask...is it right to keep bring more and more children to this world.

Excellent question. I believe we are all actors. No one is an open book to the world. We show what we want to...to the world...not our real self. Each one has their own baggage and their own skeletons in the cupboard. How good an actor we are depends on how well we cover that up and show the world we are happy. I do not think it makes life meaningless. As long as you are doing what you need to do to be at peace....you are fine. It is not necessary that the whole world should know your reasons for doing so. As long as your actions do not cause harm to any living thing, you can act on your thoughts and actions without giving explanations. This will make your life meaningful.

Apsara This world is a stage, we are mere actors here, our path from birth till last breath is predestined, we have to follow that path only, whether one likes or not, it is fixed depending upon our past karmas lol.. Thank you so much for this nice. Professor. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. God bless you. Welcome always.
