Its my first time to work and i don't know any work etiquette that I should execute as a worker. I'm a fast worker and can finish my 8 hour job for 4 hours only but some of my colleagues advised me to take it slow and enjoy time passing by. I did it for some quite now but I'm not feeling the productivity in this kind of practice. Also, another problem is that if I finished my work for a short time, some thinks of me being lazy and not doing my job but actually its already done. I'm confused. I don't want to please man. Can someone please give me some advice for this kind of situation.

It denpends on what kinds of job are you doing. Every company has its assessment methods. If you finish your work for a short time, it proves you are very effective. Then your boss may see your good performance and give you more tasks and you will get more pay. So standing on this point, you should work hard and be more skilled.

I think it won't be effective. My boss is usually out so my colleagues are the ones who judges me. I'm working on a manufacturing company where work are set for an 8 hour shift.

Do you have any supervisor who can see all of these? Or adding some push money by the quality?

The supervisory position is still vacant.

Sometimes going slower can aid in making sure your quality and the quality of your work is up to par. Do you go faster, and therefore jeapordize the quality of your work? Also, your co-workers probably make a point. If your boss expects the job to get done in 8 hours, and you can do it in half the time, you should either get a promotion and do a job more challenging (that pays better, too). one more question - do you get paid by the hours you put in a day or the work you do? If you get paid by the hours, go at a steady (slow) pace, and ifyou get paid by the work you do - speed through it!

I'm committed in working with quality so I can say that I don't jeopardize the quality of my work. I've also been thinking about the promotion I deserve but the company based their selection on seniority and not the ability.

If you are not comfortable in slowing down, then don't listen to your peers. They can only give so much advice but it is only you who can control your life. You have every right to refuse it but do it politely so as not to offend the giver. Remember: Do what makes you happy!
