Do you think homeschooling is better for children?

I think some kids are better off home schooled. There are kids who don't fit in the public school setting.. I wish I had it in me to home school. I would like to try and see if it would be better. Kids need to be around other kids so parks and after school programs would benifit them as well........Have a great day!

Yeah I agree about the after school events to try and get kids to play with other kids. I often think about these kinds of things. Like if I had a play group or if I actually was a teacher, I would first get the group / class together and get them all to talk to eachother. And hopefully everyone could just be friends instead of all the bullying that goes on around. It is just awful.
I do agree that some children have it difficult at school but I also reckon think teachers need to try harder to stop the bullying. I think being homed school would really make a child feel quite lonely and make things worse.

I think that homeschooling children is the wrong way to go. It is very unsocial and keeps them away from the rest of the world. Children need to be around other people, to be able to socialize, to play in an environment with their peers. It is what teaches them how to live. If you keep them at home all the time, they don't learn how to walk up to other kids and ask them to be friends. Even though we may not see it, getting them to go to a public school teaches them many things that they will use in the future when they are out on their own. How to socialize, how to be on a timed schedule, etc. I think that homeschooling should not be practiced. Happy MyLotting! :)

I find that I can always pick out the home schooled kids from the group. The are always slightly different than their peers. I don't know if this is good or bad, but it is a fact. In some ways they are more self reliant. The way they interact with adults is different.
It might be that so many parents I have met choose home school to keep their kids away from bad influences. They over protect the kids and don't give them the opportunity to mess up and learn from it as most kids do.

There are a number of benefits for the children who are home schooled. The only draw back is that they do not get the full social development activities.
As long as the home schooling teacher is fully disciplined herself it can be a great thing for such children you mentioned.

As for someone who did Independent Study (not exactly the same as home schooled)I can say that there are pros and cons for both. The pros with independent study/home schooling is that you can go at your own pace. It felt pretty good to get a semester done or a class done in a month or less if you really pushed yourself. I got done with my high school education two months early because I could do as much work or as little work in a day. When I was bored, I'd do some work that I could do on my own. The con is that I didn't get any college prep, and some subjects were hard to teach yourself. There were a few instructors on hand if you had questions though. I was fine with most subjects, but math...oh boy...I needed some help with that subject! Another con of schooling this way is that you don't interact with many other people. Team projects in a normal schooling situation can help you for after school in my opinon. Working as a team is super important in almost everything you do.
A con I can think of for normal schooling is that with all the education cut backs nowadays classes are more crowded than ever! Because classes are overcrowded, getting one on one help can be difficult. You get a bit more one on one help in Independent Study/Home Schooling even though you might be in a room where other students are on all different subjects and levels. In a normal school though, you get to enjoy all the special events that come along with school. Example: school pictures, prom, etc. I did have a graduation, but I missed out on other opportunities.
There are pros and cons to each situation. I enjoyed having the alternative approach to education because I could easily get ahead and always had something to do. However, I missed out on the socializing bit and college prep because it wasn't offered to me. You also have to set goals and be focused to get your work done on them. But, if children are dedicated, hard workers, and good at time management...they can do it.
