This happened to the last 2 computers I had!! It was a virus I had gotten from Limewire, both times. Next time your computer starts up keep hitting f8, when the menu comes up, select safe mode. Try to do a Virus scan in safe mode. If your computer goes into sleep mode for this, I'm afraid you will have to re-install windows to fix it. You will need someone who works on computers to help you with that.

As previous suggestion, the best way to test if your Operating system is still good is start-up in safe mode ( Press F8 or Shift + F8 ). If you are able to login in safe mode. Go to Search bar or command promt and type in msconfig. Select Diagnostic Start-up or Selective Start-up, this is to ensure limited applications are launch during the start-up process. Then restart your computer and go to Normal mode. Once you have determined possible applications or virus - uninstall and removed them immediately. If this doesnot resolve the issue, you may need your OS installer and choose repair from the options. This should fix your OS with no effect on your personal setttings. Another possibility on this issue is the screen resolution. Kindly check the max resolution your monitor supports and select that option.

one thing you might want to look at is to start replacing your connection cables. These cables that hook up your mouse, keyboard and your computer to the electrical outlet can wear out over time and there may be a short it in them. Also, check your internet connection cables as well. If it has been a while since you've put them in replacing them can increase your internet speed. It won't be by a whole but it will help. Atleast you are not where I'm at right now. I bought a used laptop online and thought that all I would need to fix would be to change the hard drive out so that way I could put vista on it. Well some where a long the way I lost the piece that holds the cd rom in place when you put it in. so I'll probably be replacing it now. I thought how would God let me get this far in determing what it needs to be fixed and then let this happen. Also, you can check the settings in your device manager. Sometimes just changing what happens when your computer comes on can change what happens when you turn it on. i don't turn my computer off unless there is a power outage or it freezes up. I have been told that you're better off to leave it turned on and just make sure your apps are closed out before going to bed or leaving your house.
