Where is the mail? Identy theft? Did you get it?

We live in the country and have rural mail delivery. My husband always stops at the mail box when he comes home and gets the mail. All week we have had no mail! He asked me if I was getting it. No, its to far of a walk, I fall under the catagory of lazy. He always stops and gets it so I don't even think of it. After he asked me again I realized we had not had any all week. Not even the junk mail! A whole week of no junk mail? That doesn't sound right. So is this how identy theft works? I called the post office and asked them if they knew why we were not getting any mail. The next day we got a large package of mail. They had been holding it, seems some one else with my first name had called and asked them to hold her mail so they held mine! Is this nice that when they hear my name they think of me???

No bills!!! Except for someone elses electric bill. I tossed that aside, thinking it was ours and wondered where the other one was, we have one for our house and one for our garage. When there wasn't a second one I took a second look at it and found it belonged to someone else!!!! I had thought that was fast as I had just paid them. The other that I got and that does worry me is the checks to the credit card to do balance transfers, what if the WRONG person had got them???? The only bill we got was one of the credit card statements and it has a credit balance on it! The rest was junk mail. I love my catalogs! I shop more out of them then I do the store, mostly because I can set back and relax and look through them...and my feet don't hurt at the end of my shopping!!!! thanks for the response!

It is nice that they thought of you but I think they should have gotten the address of the persons mail they were supposed to hold, they could have been waiting on some important stuff and there mail was being delivered. It is an odd situation though.I hope that you have a great day.

Someone was having their mail held for the week and it didn't happen and was delivered. Hope it is all ok. Seems like when they put it in the mailbox they would have realized it was piling up! I had a whole weeks worth to go through, mostly junk. I am just glad it was at the postoffice and not somewhere else. Thank you for responding.

It is possible that the other persons mail was being delivered, but you never know with the postal service sometimes mistakes happen, and I hope everything worked out well for all.Have a great day.

not really. as you say thats a bit scarey. i always worry if the post office messes up and sends my mail elsewhere. besides. what happened with the other persons mail that was to be held? here they are on vacation and now someones going to notice and perhaps they will loose some.... i see a suit coming for that mess.

Exactly! Everything you said. You would have thought that the carrier would have noticed the mail piling up in the box, for a whole week! Hope they had nothing important in it. I know I have read that instead of having your mail held at the post office if you go on vacation have a trusted friend pick it up every day from your residence. The bad part here that I know about is when I went through the mail I had some one elses electric bill! Thats a whole week they didn't have their bill!!! As I said in the previous post, only the first letter of our last name was the same. I hope it didn't put the person into to much trouble. But also we never got our mail till Saturday, so it will be next week before that person gets their electric bill!!! thanks for your response.

That's wierd. I wouldn't want anyone reading my mail though cuz that's embarrassing, don't you think?

I had a lot of catalogs to order from. Yep can tell alot about a person from their mail. I had 2 or 3 Christian catalogs! Nothing embarrassing in mine. Thanks for your response.

I'm glad that you solved the problem though and got your mail because that would be a scary situation to think that someone has stolen your identity I think that I would be scared just to even think about that. I would lose my mind and each passing day I would continue to just think about that. We get our mail everyday so I guess that's something that I should be on the watch for because if I don't see my mail coming for a week then I know that their is a problem there and that I need to do something. Have a nice day now.

I was in the postoffice today and got a big apology from the postmaster there then a very apologic note from our mail lady. I realize mistakes happen. I thought this would be a good topic to make others aware of things to watch for and to make us all aware. Thank you for your response.

That sounds like something our little post office would do. I baby sat for one of the girls in the post office. But all in all that is cute. Have a good day.

I couldn't believe it when my husband said they mixed my name up with someone else. Yes it is a little postoffice. We are so small that someone had mailed me a card and it only had my name and town and I still got it! Noone could believe that! Thanks for your response.

Is your name that unusual? I certainly am glad it was not missing under suspicious circumstances, and now you have a whole weeks worth of mail to sort through.

No my name is not that unusual. We are a small community and when I was in school, no one had my name, then my senior year there were 3 of us on the bus with the same name and none of us spelled it the same. Most of the mail was junk, except that there was one with the credit card checks and another was our credit card statement. Also, there was someone elses electric bill! And other then the last name starting with the same letter, there was nothing similar to our addresses! thanks for the response.
