When people say something like 'I'm sorry for your loss', or 'I'm sorry that you're having a bad day',..etc
...what are you supposed to say? I never knew
I usually say..'It's okay,it'snot your fault'..or'it's ok'..something like that but I think some people usually say 'thank you' which seems more appropriate.

Hello soulsshine! On day I'd chat with one of my American friend in facebook, he asked me how I am, I answered him, I'm not really fine... He asked why and I told him the whole story.. after that he said, I'm sorry about that.... For curiosity sake I asked him why you say sorry, you're nothing to do with it. He answered, I'm just sympathizing with you... I answered back, oh really.. thank you... and so on. That's sweet, isn't?
Well, we have different customs... as a Filipino I'm not used to say "sorry" in sympathizing with others. We learn from our differences. Now, when they say sorry to me, I just simply reply by saying... thank you and vice versa.
FYI, I have 7 Christian foreigner friends (man and women)in facebook and I love to chat with them for I have learned so much.

wow thats really sweet....I believe that people who shows sympathy towards others also get the same when they are in trouble. this is really nice. Sometimes sympathy can give you strength and new hope.

Wow i wouldn't really know what to say because it's usually the other way around with me. I end up hurting some people but not on purpose and i just have said sorry and a few have forgave me and others have not yet done so. However i would never be in such a position where a friend or maybe someone else would say sorry to me. Don't know why i said that but it's the truth.
Cheers!

wow...it's kinda interesting...but sometimes I face some situations where I need to say sorry and willingly do it. I don't wanna feel that someone is hating me. I do it politely and generally I always try to be gentle so it's a rare situation. But most of the time my friends do mistakes and say sorry or when I'm in a bad situation they wanna express their feelings by saying sorry. i feel so happy then but didn't know actually how to express my feelings with proper manner.

I generally say thanks for your concern and move on... It feels weird, though. Maybe something else would be more appropriate? I suppose it depends on each situation.

Your question also stumped me initially..............lol!
On hearing such words, I would say - It is alright and/or it was in our fate and there is one supreme power which runs the show.

I will say, "yaa .. never mind, i don't want to think about it now ... " i think people are rare to say thank you ended when someone say sorry in the conversation, that's the opposite word i think

My response is often, "alright" but that depends on the reasons why the person is saying sorry to me and the matter with which he/she apologized to me. If the matter was very serious, I might not be able to forgive and forget easily so I might stay silent to avoid saying something that can be misinterpreted later.

I usually say "Thank you". But if the person apologizes because he did something wrong, it is more appropriate to answer it with "That's okay". Well, that's for me. That is my opinion and I am really get used to it.
