We are building a house in Davao City, Philippines and have a caretaker living on site while we are away.
He has allowed squatters to build in concrete block on the nature strip between our front fence and the highway.
This land belongs to the highway and we were looking to enjoying it because it has a couple of nice mango trees on it.
These people have now built a house there and are using our power and water.
Apart from finding another caretaker, who was getting free rent and power and P500 a month, what do you suggest is the appropriate way to handle the situation.

Apart from complaining to the police and other relevant agencies about the power theft from your property, I don’t think you can do too much. Even if you sack the present caretaker, the squatters are there for good as it is highway land and hence govt property. If the local administration in your place is strict in such matters, you might just get your view back. This type of encroachment is rampant here in India and nothing can be done as the squatters are poor and the administration does not want to upset them (at the cost of us). Only the power authorities can help you maybe but that will only cut off their power supply.
