I am not exactly sure what sites you are talking about that you cannot earn without referrals. But I do know that there are hundreds of them out there that you can earn and then earn more with referrals. Referrals don't come easy, and active referrals are even less heard of. There are a couple programs in my profile page that will pay you and pay you more for referrals. This is by no means all of them, just a couple. Best bet is to have a web property of some sort, usually blogs are the easiest, where you can add your banners and entice your readers to try the programs out. That is how I have had the best luck. The best and easiest way is to make a well organized blog with payment proof. You can try to use GETREF, BUYREF and some PTSU in out there. So much site that we can use to get referral. The problems is, we need money get it and the referral won't get active like we wish. Good luck!!

You can earn without referrals. Referrals just help you earn a little extra. I got refs on mylot by using Yahooanswers. Not sure if you should try that though because they suspended my account for no reason a few days ago. You can also get refs using other social networking websites thay pay you. Try out Sidetick or Mypage5.
