Bothered by a toothache!

Toothache has been last for several day, I hardly can endure the ache. For this ache, I can not eat things well, can not think things well, can not work well, even can not talk well. I am going to be collapse. Everyone around me adviced to see a dentistis, but fearful that the dental drill will hurt more than the toothache, I choose to hold off on treatment until the bitter end. In addition, I still associate a toothache with tooth extraction - but the thought of losing a tooth is just too much to bear. Till now, the only way I used to release the ache with the painkiller. I know this is not a good way, but better than no idea. Have you got a toothache experience? Do you have any good ways to release the gnawing pain?

As someone who has gone through this several times, I am willing to bet you have a tooth infection. I can understand you don't want a tooth extraction, I had one because my last tooth infection was so severe, my face swelled up like a chipmunk... It was a front tooth.. To this day, I have not been able to get a replacement, and I can't even smile for fear of feeling embarrassed.. But embarrassment is nothing compared to the pain I had gone through. This is my suggestion to help ease your pain and bring down your infection, but I implore you see a dentist before it gets worse. 1. See if your doctor will prescribe you some antibiotics. You'll need them. 2. Get green tea. It has an antibodies. 3. Take an anti-inflammatory painkiller to ease the suffering. Take a look around the Web for toothache remedies. Not all of them will work, but you may find some that do. I hope your tooth feels better soon, but if you can afford it, go to the dentist before it gets too late.

... my face swelled up now, just a little, but I can feel that. Except for seeing a dentist, I have taken many ways to release the pain, including take anti-inflammatory painkiller. The pain has been down, but the swelled is still be there. Green tea has an antibodies? Really? I decide to make a try. Thank you very much.

The only sensible thing to do is to see a dentist. Most toothache is due to an abcess under the tooth and this should be cleared up with antibiotics before the tooth itself is dealt with. Dentists these days will use a local anaesthetic before they operate and, at least in the UK, try to save the tooth by filling the cavity if it is not too far advanced. The longer you leave it, the more likely you are to lose the tooth; the sooner you see a dentist, the more likely it is he will be able to save it!

So serious as you said? Please do not scare me. when I was a kid, I had a experience to see a dentist, and never forgot the terrible feelings when the doctor did some operations with different cold tools in my mouth. Since that time, I keep myself far away from the dentist. Is it the only way to release my pain now?

Hi liweiwei,I have the same experience, you may still remember a proverb in our country:"toothache isn't disease, but it may kill people."Go to a dentist he could stop your toothache immediately, after that you should repair you tooth,it may cost a lot,but you have to do that or your toothache would be worse.Take good care of your tooth and enjoy a good life.

If there is no other alternative, I will go to see the terrible dentist. I am really afraid to go to the dentist's office.

Hi, I did experience toothache sometimes and I can't sleep and eat well. Everything I do feel uncomfortable. Want to sit and relax also feel the pain, but I am so scared to go to dentist. So what I will do is to brush my teeth, gaggle with some warm water. Then use pillow to cover mt cheek, the pain area and try to get a short nap. I guess my condition is not that bad. because after a short nap,the pain is gone and I avoid drink cold water or eat antyhing cold. If your toothache last for long,it is advisable to go to dentist for medication.Or else, you will be suffered everyday. For me, if I have toothache more than a week,I will look for dentist. No matter how scared I am...I have to face it too. I remembered when I was in my primary school, my dad brought me to dentist because I have toothache frequently. I saw the dentist took his drill and asked me to open my mouth. I was so scared and I told him to be gently.Of course, when I heard the drill sound, My heart was pumping fast and I can fell the pain and I keep shouting for the pain. I was on and off dentist for more than 3 weeks to get my teeth done. The dentist asked to me come back for dental check-up every half yearly and I was telling myself, I won't step your clinic again ,unless, I have a bad toothache. Scary experience for me and that was my first time to dentist..I pray hard that I won't be stepping to dental clinic in my whole life.

How vivid you described. Just of the terrible memory in my brain, let me keep far away from the dentist. And I do know that to see a dentist is the best way to slove the problem, but it is better to say than to do. I need more courages.

I often come across the toothache, but the reasons were different.Sometimes the swollen gum makes the tooth pain, sometimes because the tooth itself has phlogosis. The common way of killing pain is eating painkillers.I have never visit a dentist because he will charge me much money and I can cure by myself with much less than that money, lol. You should drink much water and green vegetable to cure youraself, goodluck

For me, brushing my teeth brought some relief, and my last toothache had me brushing my teeth like eight or more time a day. I heard there is something in fluoride toothpaste that can correct cavities before they hit the nerves (that causes toothaches) but afterwards it is just delaying the inevitable. Another trick is to chew an aspirin slowly around the toothm but of course do not use more than the recommended dosage each day. I ran across a site years ago that said in medieval times the people could pull out their teeth without tools because by the time they went to a professional, the tooth was so rotted it just came out with minimal fuss.

Thank you for your advice. Today, when I wake up and go to the washroom to brush my teeth, but it was difficult for me to do that, I found my gingiva swollen, it would be pain as touched by anything. I think I will have a terrible day.

I understand why you wouldn't want to see the dentist. I was the same way when I had the worst toothache I could hardly bare, and that was when I was pregnant. I know it is a good idea to go in case the infection gets worst, but I didn't do that based on fear. I bought some sea salt from the closest grocery store and dropped about two tablespoons in warm water and stirred it up, then I moved it around in my mouth where the infected tooth was, and less than 1 hour I felt a lot better, and before the night was over, the pain was completely gone. This is what I done, but I'm not saying not to see the dentist, just my experience.

In the first place, the toothache could directly linked with decaying of tooth or tooth bed, but according to chinese medicine, it is related with the entire health status, especially the digestion system. Therefore, better avoid eating high energy producing food, such as cola, heavy meat, etc. Drinking more water and good rest are necessary.

You should see a dentist as soon as possible. You don't want your toothache to cause you further problems. I woke up on July 4, 2010 with the worst tooth pain I've had in my life. My jaw hurt, my eyes hurt, my head hurt, and my neck. It started from the tooth pain though and spread out. I couldn't enjoy the holiday or the next day. I finally gave in and scheduled a dentist appointment. He told me immediately that the tooth would have to come out. I was sick of hurting so I agreed. The whole procedure took less than 10 minutes. I couldn't believe it was done so fast!! It took about 2 weeks until I started feeling normal again, but I was glad I had it done.

I believe tooth pain is the worst pain anyone can endure, as most other pains subside whereas a tooth pain it can remain there and worsen. Everyone is advising you to see a dentist and well that is the sensible and correct thing to do as it will not heal on it's own it will only drive to further problems. Any growths and or abscesses will damage your other teeth as well as your never endings and gums. Perhaps you are not able to afford one, as I would not be able to myself right now. Scour the net in your community and see if there is a free clinic of some sort or a place where a payment plan can be negotiated. Thank care of that before you have permanent damage.

You really need to go to the dentist. If you let it keep going it could get even worse. I had one over a weekend once it was just awful, I wound up just taking Nyquil so I could go to sleep. I needed a root canal, once they took care of the problem I was as good as new, but it would never have just gone away on its own.

Yeah it is really very exauting to have toothache,as the saying goes, toothache is not a disease, but it will kill you if it happens.I have heared of a method to deal with the toothache problem, maybe you can try it and see.I hope it can help you with it.First cut a ginger into pieces, then pick a piece and bite it with the painful tooth.Keep it for a while, and you may feel better.Wish it can help you.

From your name, I guess you are a Chinese. Try a toothpaste with herb conent, called Yun Nan Bai Yao, at a price of about twenty yuan. Besides, you should drink more water, and have more vegetables or fruit. Avoid too spicy food for the moment. Hope you will be ok soon.

Last time I had a toothache was 15 years ago. As I can remember my Mom took me to a dentist. However, the dentist did not extract my tooth and prescribed instead for me to take antibiotics and pain reliever. Dentists will not extract your tooth if the gum is swollen. However, eventually once the swollen gum and pain has subside the tooth needs to be extracted. I also hate going to the Dentist but since they are the expert when it comes to our teeth I have no choice but to give them a visit at least once a month.

If the tooth is bothering me that much, I always have to resort to extraction. There are also dentists who would decide whether they are going to take out the tooth or not. There are some cases that the tooth would just need some filling after taking some medications. I had toothache before but pain killers last only for a few hours and then the pain is back. So its better to extract the tooth.

The best solution for a tooth ache is to remove the aching tooth. But in cases that a dentist is not around, just get a lukewarm water, put some rock salt to it and gargle with it. And take a mefenamic acid to help relieve the pain. But this is just a temporary relieve. You still need to go to the dentist

hi liweiwei, i assume if you have a toothache that keeps you in livid pain, then it must be one that touches a nerve or two. Besides a possible tooth infection, you probably need a refill coz I think due to wear and tear, there might be a hole that reaches the roots of your tooth and which causes the pain when food gets in. So there. Please don't use any more painkillers as it will not do you good in the long run.
