Ok so my daughter is 3 years old now and she has never spent the night away from us since she came home from the hospital. Now she was in the NICU for 3 months after she was born, so I was away from her for 3 months at night. I went everyday but did not stay nights. Well the other grandkids have already stayed many nights of at grandmas. Two are older one is the same age and one is younger. That is nice for them but I still feel that she is to young to be staying at grandmas house over night. I have asked her if she wants to and she always tells me no. I feel that when she is ready she will tell me. I guess part of it to is yes in this way I am overprotective. I don't like to be away from her for very long. Also she has a really good bedtime routine and I don't want to get her back the next day and have her tired and cranky for the whole day. Trust me she doen't get enough sleep and that is what we get tired and cranky and crying at everything. So my question is how old was your child the frist time they stayed the night at someones house. What were your concerns and how did it go?

Hi,
My son is 3.5 years old now and till now he never overnight at
other people's house without me and his daddy.
AT home, sometimes my mother-in-law do joke with him to sleep with her and my son
will say "NO", he wants to sleep with mummy and daddy.
So I believe he can't be apart from me and my husband.
Since he born, he has been sleeping with us and I also feel
uneasy if don't see my son for one night.
That kind of missing feeling is there.

I would feel completly missing. I don't think that I would sleep much at all. She sleeps in her own bed but it just a room away I can still hear her and check up on her. When she has a bad dream or wakes up it is me that she comes and finds. I really don't think that she would be comfertable right now somewhere besides home.

My oldest was actually only a couple weeks old the first time that she spent the night with my in-laws. The reason that she spent the night with them so young was because they had never had a daughter of their own and she was like a novelty to them. She continued to spend the night with them at least once a week until she was starting school.
My youngest, on the other hand never spent the night away from me until after he was three years old. I think that there are a variety of reasons for that as well. However, I think the main reason for it is that I knew he would be my last baby and I've been very attached to him since the day he was born.
