I do not think anything of it at all really. Other people get upset over stupid things and this is one of them. There are better things for people to focus their attention on, and this is NOT one of them. What do you think?

I think we need to pick our battles. If they want to build a mosque near ground zero. So what? I mean, I know the inner political stuff going on with that but leave it alone. People are going to do what they are going to do regardless of what ney sayers give it. I am relatively sure that the people building the mosque are not the same people who put together the plot to drive a plane into the twin towers. I wonder what percentage of muslims or whatever live there anyway?

I agree and that is an excellent question. As I understand it there is already a mosque or two I think I saw on the news in the area. What the public doesn't realize is that several hundred muslims worked in the WTC and they went down with the other victims as well. The press I guess forgot to mention that when they were covering the story at the at time. They were "Americans" too. By-the-way one of the muslim community's buildings in the area is a "COMMUNITY CENTER" that has the trappings of a "mosque" inside out of site of the general public for prayer periods that all muslims adhere to which you may or may not know, is five times a day. The "PRESS" has tagged it as a "MOSQUE". It is not!

Thank you for your agreement. I just think that some people have such hate that nothing will make them change. But muslims are here and there is nothing we can do about it. We have been a melting pot(especially NY city) for centuries. Get with the program people! This is America not your own little neighborhood where you can do as you like!!!! Whoa! That felt good. LOL I was aware that muslims did pray several times a day. Not sure I remember it was five though. THanks.

I don't think It's a good idea as I think the location is just TOO sensitive. Can you imagine if that mosque, in Ground Zero of all places, becomes radicalised? However, I also think the anti-mosque protestors are showing their ignorance. Labelling the mosque supporters as "the same people who committed 9/11" is just idiotic. Quite frankly, I think It's a bad idea because, no matter how many people try to label it as a "symbol of hope" or a sign that Muslim does NOT equal Taliban, it will serve as nothing more than a target. Anti-Muslims will just use it as a beacon for their views, while more hardline Muslims will probably see it either as triumphalist (that a mosque is built in the area that now symbolises 9/11) or "not religious enough" (as in, the mosque is used for all Muslims instead of being sectarian Sunni or Shia, the mosque allows non-Muslims inside, the mosque imams are somehow "vetted" by the government, and so on).

Hi "ScrambledBrains", You have an interesting viewpoint that I find myself understanding and in some aspects agreeing with. You are correct when you say the mosque would become a beacon for any and every radical pro or anti mosque group out there. I feel the property owner should withdraw his offer to sell the land if it isn't too late already, What do you think?

I must admit I share your opinion on this subject. I am an American living in Thailand and when I look at the world news I actually get embarassed at how utterly "STUPID" my former countrymen and women can be. For crying out loud there are many other more pressing matters to be dealt with in America then where a mosque is being built. The economy being number one I would think followed closely by health care and "JOBS" so people can support themselves and their families and lead quality lives without worrying about how they are going to meet their "BASIC" obligations; things like food, shelter, basic medical issues, etc. Americans are suppose to be an example of a postive force for good in the world or at least that's what is generally felt throughout the world. This display in New York hardly conveys that example. "YES" or "NO"?

I am against the idea. Apart from the general sensitivity about the area, people of many faiths were murdered. I would opt for a memorial to the fallen, so that it does not become the focus of any one religion.
