I am 41 years old and I still determined to get that all important college degree. Don't get me wrong, I believe that education is of utmost importance. And it does not matter how much you try to convince your boss that you are truly qualified, unless you have a degree to prove it, he's not even interesting in looking at you, much less wasting time on an interview. I have steady at a few trade schools, but they have all been in the medical field. I no longer want to do that kind of work any more.
I just read on Facebook that my sister is taking five classes in Georgia this semester. I am very proud of her, though I wish she would come back home to Los Angeles. I miss her so much. Then there is my middle sister. She graduated from a community college some years back and is a pre-school teacher. My oldest niece started UCLA this summer and was shocked to learn that this college does nothing to help further your education. You do research for the school. She did not find this out until after she enrolled. I have two cousins who graduated from USC, I felt that my niece should have went there also.
I have been attempting to go back to college for a long time now, but for some reason or another, things never work out the way that I plan. This time, I think I will wait until my living situation is more stable. Usually, as soon as I start making plans for college, I move again. Is anyone still determined to finish college after a long time of trying?

well i am not 41 but look at the realistic situation in todays world whilst degree and qualifications are important it is experience that outweighs it. I mean an internship or work experience under the BBC or CNN or Versace or whatever could really take you places. If you are determined to get a degree go for it.

Well it's good to hear that your goal is to get a degree. That's inspiring! I am 20 and out of college for the time being so I understand, in a sense, how it feels. I agree with someone else who said that experience plays a big role, too, in finding a good, stable job - but at the same time - having a degree or some kind of technical training definitely helps in my opinion and from what I've seen!

First of all, good luck with your degree! I am 19 at the moment and I'm just going into the second year of my degree. There are lots of people in my university who are your age, and it doesn't seem to be holding them back too much- even though one of the women I am good friends with is 46 with three children, one of whom has cystic fibrosis.
You just have to think about what you've achieved in your life, and remember that you've probably done things which are a lot harder than a tiny little degree!
