Everybody use internet in the office, at home, internet shops and lately on cellphones. For adults like us, there is no harm because we can decide what sites to surf. But is it safe for the kids to surf the net? Surfing for their project and school assignments will not hurt them but what if they enter in a chat room? How sure are we that they are protected in the virtual world?

You are right, it is hard for us to really keep track on what our kids are doing in the Internet. As a parent, I do tell my kids what is right and I check the browser's history. I am glad they are just interested in Games but I still talk to them and help them with their homework if needed. And they I will get angry if they visit forbidden sites so they avoid that at all cost.

Welcome to mylot. May you enjoy the wonderful and exciting experience I am having at mylot.
It is my personal opinion the internet IS NOT safe for children without adult supervision.
Chat rooms are not safe for children. You do not know who is on the other end. I have seen numerous TV shows about police setting up perpetrators looking for children.
I have read numerous news articles regarding children being killed or injured by people they meet on the internet. I would not allow my son on the internet without a safety program in place. There are too many dangers out there. It is even dangerous for adults. Just my humble opinion.

hi TexLadyPj, I agree with you. I have encountered a lot of adult sites that just pop up while surfing the net. How much more if our kids are surfing? We cannot supervise them 24/7. Thanks for your opinion.
