Most women can relate to this - there's just a time when we crave something sweet or salty or sometimes sour. It's frustrating particularly when you have diet restrictions like you're on a diet or on medication. They say that once in a while, you take what you crave for in order for your body to not feel deprived. But, when your craving is extreme (I really want to eat something really, really, really salty) what should you do?

I am the kind of person who craves salty foods all of the time. I don't really binge on chocolate, but I could happily sit and eat crisps all day. Infact, I am trying to cut down on the junk food at the moment, so haven't had anything to eat all day apart from my breakfast which was first thing this morning. I think I just need to get out of the habit of picking up a bag of crisps when I am bored. If I did that, I think that I would be a lot healthier very easily.

I experience that sometimes when I'm bored. Good thing for me I eat chips only when I really have a craving. I don't do it on a daily basis. Since you're into salty food, I suggest you drink a lot of water. Try lessening your chips consumption because the sodium can cause high blodd pressure.

I do not crave things very often, but if I ever do, it's normally chocolate and not really salty. The only time I am craving salt is if I'm eating something that doesn't have enough flavor. That happens often, though, and the other day my mom joked that I would put salt in my water because it had no flavor. Anyway, when I want chocolate all I really have to do is whiiine to my mom, she normally has chocolate somewhere. :D

I have read somewhere that when you are craving for something, we should drink a glass of water and wait up to 5 minutes to ten minutes before giving in to your cravings. It was said that we often misinterpret thirst into cravings so we should first drink water to satisfy it then the cravings may diminish..anyway, if you only crave once in a while, then you cna give into it sometimes...=)

That is a good suggestion, thanks. I guess that would solve my problem because I am usually thirsty. Or, even if I weren't thirsty, the waiting time could neutralize my craving. Sigh. I should have posted like 30 minutes ago. (I've already eaten some really salty peanuts )
