Who remembers the Y2K scare in 1999?

They were telling everyone that computers worldwide wouldn't recognize the numbers 2000 and would all crash, sending the world into chaos. People were going out and purchasing bulk survival items, bottled water, canned food, etc. I remember sitting in front of the tv at midnight watching the countdown. I didn't think anything would happen, it sounded too ridiculous. Does anyone remember this happening? Where were you and what did you think?
