Facebook's new tool, Places. Comments anyone?

I tend to stumble across a lot of articles on Facebook's new tool "Places" as it was just released last week . It seems that this tool is being criticized by several parties as yet to arise another concern for privacy. This has always been the issue for facebook, privacy. The new tool offers users to inform their friends about their current location. All you have to do is to check in when you are at a certain destination and it will appear on your status update. oh!you can also check in your friends as well in the same destination!So this tool functions to helps users to maximize on their networking capabilities. Now, i'm just wondering,what do you guys think of Places? Is it necessary to have this tool in our lives?

I've noticed a few new tools recently on facebook, but i know i have quite a few more available than my wife for some reason.... her facebook account and main page hasn't updated from the slightly older version yet which she likes. I prefer the newer one with all the new features though as the look of it is cleaner and it makes it easier to use day to day.

it is strange to me(places of FB), I never heard about this type of words in facebook. What is the use of it. can you explain me in details about its produre?

This is directed to FB's Places
No, I am not interested in FB Places. You can already be tracked via
your cell phone if you leave it on when you travel.
Why would I want everyone on FB to know where I am? On the hand,
there are FB people who upload pictures from their vacations, and report every moment what they are doing.
Some people have reported break ins because they told everyone that
they were leaving.
FB Places is not for me.
