As a believer I don't believe that God exists - do you understand?

Well I guess the question I am wondering is what DO you believe?
I am a believer, that is, I believe that God is God. Whether or not he is a man in a cloud or simply an entity or matter in the universe, I don't care, God is God.
There are many "religions" in this world, and when I hear people argue about who is right and wrong I feel sad. I don't believe that ANY Of us are right OR wrong. You have to be strong in your own faith, your OWN relationship with God, and it can be under the influence of religion or form your own understandings and experiences.

Here's what I don't understand about your approach to god: Believing in something doesn't make it real. Hypothetically, were god to exist, he would exist as a certain being, regardless of what people think of him. There is no middle ground on this. If one perception of god is correct, all others are wrong. If god only exists in the mind of the believer based on their relationship with him, then god is not actually real and is a mere fantasy. Whether you like it or not, if god existed, you can only be right or wrong about who he is, what he desires of his followers, and what stories about him are real.

Jupitercrasdhing, I understand what you are saying, but I don't agree with you.
God is so amazing, so powerful, EVERYWHERE all at once, and he can't be different things to different people??
One of things I find most beautiful about people is how unique and separate yet the same we all are. The relationship we have with God, and how he appears to each of our own individual perceptions is ALSO unique, separate, and yet somehow the same.
So I remain that God is God no matter how you view him/it/her.

Yes, I can see that you have a belief in something. Paradoxically, for someone to have a belief in the non-existence of something, means that there is uncertainty.
If you see the world around. The living plants, the animals, the rocks, the mountains, the sea.. You can get an experience of the existence of those things. There is no denying it.
It is said that God is everything. That means everything that we see, from a pebble to the highest mountain, from an invisible germ to the biggest living creature alive, from a tiny flower to the highest tree... and so on...
No, you don't have to believe in all that stuff, because you can see it. If God is everything, that you don't need to believe in God. You are getting a direct experience of God every day. Not a belief or an understanding, but through your senses, an experience. Don't believe any of this that is written, see for yourself the "Everything" and call it whatever you like._Derek

Do you mean you believe in a G-d but Not G-d, the Jewish/Christian G-d. That's ok with me. It is your right to believe or Not to believe.

It means that you want more proof to convince yourself that God exist. Without proof you do not believe that God exist. Am I right?

My view is that to believe in something is absurd,
to believe something exists is either correct or false, depending on whether it actually does exist.
I believe God and that God is God

You don't believe god exists because you "know" he exists, right? People can believe in something regardless of whether or not it is real. However, I would have to say you cannot know that god exists, and there is certainly no legitimate evidence for any religion being correct.

Not what I meant but an interesting answer, so answer me this; can you know you are really conscious? Can you know another is?

Well so you say but perhaps you are just responding to my written stimuli in a manner designed to mimic consciousness. So, if I have understood you correctly your belief that you are conscious is based on your own subjective experience of being conscious.
Now this appears to be the same kind of evidence that you reject as illegitimate for religious belief. So by your own criteria you cannot know that you are conscious.
Therefore, you must either
1. Accept the authenticity of religious belief
2. Deny that you know that you are conscious
3. Adopt a rather irrational stance that you deny religious belief but accept that you are conscious
4. Show a logical flaw in my reasoning
I would be most interested to hear which

The definition of conscious: A sense of one's personal identity; aware of one's own existence, sensations, thoughts, surroundings.
Seeing as how I am aware of my own identity, existence, thoughts, sensations, and surroundings, I am obviously conscious.

I really like this question Urban, and I have been back here 3 times to reread it, but I do not think I have the answer yet. And yet I do understand on a certain level, but I cannot put it into words yet....I will be back. I just hate having to hunt posts up.

I don't understand what you mean, but it puts me in mind of the story in Mark 9:14-29. The father of a boy with a mute and deaf spirit in him that cause the boy bodily harm, came to Jesus to ask for help. Jesus' disciples tried to get rid of the spirit but couldn't. The father said to Jesus, "If you can do anything..." Jesus' response, "If you can! All things are possible for one who believes." Immediately the father cried out, "I believe; help my unbelief!"
I think the father so much wanted to believe for his son's sake but was afraid any doubts he had might forfeit his son's chances.
I don't know that this is along the lines of what you are saying, your statement just made me think of it.

I do Understand. Your first mistake is one many people make. You rely upon beliefs. Beliefs merely point us in a direction by which we can search for the truth or the facts. Beliefs are not important, however facts are. Fact: if God exists then He can be found. Do you even search?? Do you base your knowledge of God on the religious Beliefs of others thereby concluding God could not exist???? Fact: knowledge is discovered. Rarely is it given to us. Wisdom is attained in the search for knowledge. One must search for all knowledge even knowledge about God. It's all a test of intelligence. Logic: If God exists and created the universe, God has intelligence far above mankind. You must think out of the box of mankind. Logic. Since actions speak louder than words, one can learn alot about someone through their actions. The start on your journey to discovery. Look around you. Can you see God's actions?? Do you understand what is really going on with this world???? Remember intelligence far above mankind's thinking. On your journey to discover, discovery will lead you to doors to open. the more you understand the closer to God you will get. One day you will discover God. When you do, beliefs will be meaningless. As with everything in life, it is up to each of us our path.

I am sorry urbandekay; "its a fool's paradise by not believing or not giving proper due respect on God"
What ever good or positives we are enjoying in our life is what God Is,God is not what different people of different parts of the world understand or perceive to be in some form or some mysterious figure, but it is present every where on our every breath its just the act that we do on our daily day to day life if we do the positives its God.
God is within us on our very action,it is omnipresent, even on the gutter or by the drain side, the main thing is that its our deeds, how we live it.

Hi urban, I believe that God exist; I believe that HE's there long before us. If you don't well you are entitled to your own prerogative. I think you're old enough to weigh the principles and some other opinions.

The word "God" means a great many things to a great many people. Even within a single faith, the only God that anyone can envision is their own personal interpretation. In fact, I think that it is folly to say one believes in the same god as another, or in a God at all, since we all have our own interpretations. Is our interpretation of God then to be considered God in itself?
@Graptopetalum (1807)

Aren't our ideas about anything our own interpretation? OK, if, for example, you have some false idea about gravity, you're likely to get killed trying to fly or something. You can point to the Bible and show that certain ideas about God are wrong (assuming you believe the Bible). You can point to other evidence that shows that certain ideas about God are wrong - you can't go up in a plane and see God and angels sitting on clouds for example.

Our belief in the concept of God is nothing but reinforcing our own beliefs in ourselves, its like renewing that inner strength time and again by holding on to something that’s tangible and not totally abstract…that’s why you’ll see God being used as an excuse for almost every human action. I think I understand what you mean by saying that you believe in God but not the existence of God…my beliefs are something similar. Once you understand that by calling upon God, you are actually calling upon your own soul or trying to only justify your own actions, that question of existence is no longer pertinent, only faith remains.

well it means that you believe in god although you think he god doesn't exist? i am not sure what you are trying to say but it reminds me of a quotation i came accross once. It was in french so i will try to translate it in english: Belief only proves its strenght but not its truth. It wasn't necessary directed to religion...it was just written like that.

I confess I don't understand what you're saying. Is it that you want to believe in God but world influences and events make it hard to believe? Is it that God makes more sense than no god, but if there is a god why do such bad and even evil things happen in the world, or why doesn't God put an end to evil? What is it that you're a believer in?

why not?
Its true that I can't see him but I'm always blessed by the things he has done in my life..in a way like having good health for my family...
he comforts me through his word when ever i am facing problem.
I can feel that he love's me despite those times I fail him.
He never change nor leave.
why don't you believe? you are not assured whose you're serving.
If GOD doesn't exists, then what's the reason of still choosing to live in this world..
a MAN without GOD is NOTHING but a GOD without MAN IS STILL GOD..
It's all up to you now.
