I actually took a walk this morning.

Hubby leaves at 6:15 am and I went for a walk. It was kind of slow. I am so out of shape. Do you walk? Is it for pleasure or for fitness, or some of both? For me I would say it is some of both. I want to get fit, and I really enjoy walking. I took some pictures of downtown McPherson. Do you do other fitness activities, and are they inside or outside? I like to swim, but seldom do it.We have been to the lake two or three times this summer. Sometimes I like to do yard work, which is also a way to keep fit. Mostly I am just here at the computer.

I walk because im a city bus rider and often you have to walk a distance to transfer to another bus. Other than that i dont. I do have a bike which i loaned to my grandson earlier this summer. He has his own bike now. They just didnt bring mine back yet. Anyway with the 90 degree and up temperatures i dont really want to. It just zapps your energy.

Well walking is a Great form of excercise and can really help with weight as well. The problem is are you doing enough of it to help? Plus if you do not take the time to watch what you eat, that can be an issue as well. Hope you are still doing your walking when you get time. I know I have no choice a lot of the time, and even with my bad leg it may hurt to walk at first but since I am also loosing a little weight that is a little more motivation for me as well.

Holidays and weather kind of interrupted me, time to get back to some kind of exercise, though. I eat healthily, but way too much. So, although I do not make resolutions, I am making changes with the new year, like avoiding eating out, and not putting butter on everything, and then the thing that really makes me feel good is eating five to ten servings of vegetables and fruits per day.

I haven't been walking lately. It's been too hot. Even in the morning the humidity usually zaps my strength. I noticed this morning when I went out for my dentist appointment, it was actually cool. It's starting to get warmer now as the day wears on, but it sure would have been a good day to walk. Last fall I was a walking machine. I think I wore my dog out. Not so much this year.

Walking is an excellent form of exercise. I am wondering if any of you have heard of in home walking. It is great because the only equiment you need is a DVD and a DVD player. I have been doing it for several years. I hesitate to mention the name of the DVD as I am not promoting anything except exercise. In home walking only takes about 30 minutes a day. It can done in very little space. It can be done at anytime. You don't have to worry about gas, traffic, parking or anything that going to a gym would involve. You can do it anytime of the year in any weather because you are inside your own home. Like the DVD says, you go a mile (or 2 or more) but you don't go anywhere and you get a complete workout. There are different levels of walks for different age groups or levels of fitness. For me it is the perfect exercise. However, I acknowledge we are individuals and it may not be for everyone.

I like to walk and don't have a car so I have to do it to get around really, I rely on public transport if I have to make a long journey. As you know from discussion I just got a pedometer and am trying to do 10000 steps a day which is harder than I thought it would be, turns out I was doing nowhere near it. We have a dog to walk as well and taking him our gives me a reason to walk more, it was walking him that pushed the step count up to nearly 10000 yesterday. And today the weather is better so I will walk him again later.

Having a reason to walk, like dogs, or transportation does help. Our weather is kind of bad now, and I find it easy to make excuses. I have a hard time getting those steps up as well. I love my pedometer as well.

I like to walk, not in the weather we are having here though. I don't like the cold. So I don't walk much during the winter, but enjoy walking when the weather is good. I do workouts with DVD's at home mostly to stay in shape. I don't have much time to do much else. But I love to do what you did and take walks and take photos as I am doing it.

The weather right now is preventing it. I am going to burn some energy going through more drawers and closets today. I think I can walk laps inside my church, which is right across the alley from me, if I will just go do it.

I have to really get into an exercise routine soon. I am unable to lose as much weight as I would like and if I did something as simple as walk I would be able to lose more! Now to find someone to walk with. I believe that is the motivation I need.

I need to get out to walk before I get involved in anything else and then I will get it done. I am not losing, and I know I will not lose unless I do exercise.

I've gained a lot of weight over the last 10 years. First it was a surgery and I could not do anything strenuous for 6 whole weeks. The a job change which left me doing only upper body work. Around this time I got my computer and my partner and I were not getting along and taking the long walks we normally did together. My part-time job of 30 hours a week then changed to 10 hours a week and my osteo arthritis kicked in big time. I'm in constant pain now and movement is difficult especially those days when the pain killers don't work. I've made a couple of little rules like no eating after 9:30pm and I have to get off my derrière to do chores for an hour or so at least 4 times a week as well as getting off it more than usual. I've also stopped buying sweet stuff when I do the shopping...except for maybe one thing. No cake, chocolate or biscuits though. I'm actually losing weight but so far I don't feel any better...there's a h3ll of a long way to go. Good luck to us.

I am not getting long walks in, and not as frequently as I had supposed. I did get a half mile in yesterday. I find that my body hurts less if I just will regularly do something like walking. It is not always fun when I am doing it, but I know in my heart that it helps. I got a new pedometer about a week ago, but I also got a new laptop computer.

Walking is awesome for people to do. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you go, just doing it is good for you. And if you go in the morning, it so pretty out and cooler. I love to walk and love to go to the parks to walk around. I don't go by myself though, I go with my daughters. I do walk around the neighborhood though, to the bank, to the store. Other than that, I don't do much of any other exercise. I've helped my daughter in her yard this summer, weeding, and planting some stuff which is another thing I like to do. I wish I had a yard to mess around in, I'd be out there all day like I use to do. It's good therapy too, takes your mind off your problems working in the yard. I don't have my car anymore so I'm sort of limited to what I can do anymore...no fun.

I do love to walk and it is for pleasure and fitness. However, I dont get to do it as often or as long as I want. If Im on errands, I prefer to walk and its the kind of prolonged exposure to walking that I love. I am going to start an exercise schedule with my friends. We plan to play badminton twice a week for at least an hour. That way, we get to have fun while being in shape. We have to work around our schedules and fiesta is coming up soon. Aside from my daily routine of helping with the business or around the house, I would also be found in front of the computer.^_^

I always thought badminton was fun, but I do not know anyone who plays it. It would be a great plan for me to walk to pay some of my bills. I need to build up my ability to walk. I am doing better than I was six months ago. I got a bit lazy when I had foot surgery and have not gotten back into being active.

I usually walk my dogs every morning but for the next week or so I have a boy coming over after school to walk them. I have a problem with the young dog as she tends to just take off and takes me with her LOL So, with him being stronger he can help me teach her right from wrong. I've always walked but when I had my heart attacks exercise was mandatory and I did it anyway so I just walked. Being back in Oklahoma with the heat I haven't done too much walking but went to a garage sale and go a thing called a Power Rider......just an exercise machine. I also bought a DVD exercise DVD and use it at least three times a week now since my son fixed my DVD player:) I am going to town probably Friday and looking for a stationery bike to use in the house when the weather is bad. The dogs can walk themselves around this yard LOL But, yes, I have the heart problem and I do exercise for health.

i love to walk... that is basically the reason why i stopped using the car for almost eight months now... but still have to muster enough determination and will to do walking as a regular exercise... i just get to walk from train station to destination and back... taxi stop to mall and back... inside the mall, shopping or simply window wondering... i also want to go back swimming... those -- walking and swimming -- are the two best exercises we can give our bodies...

That is a great idea, swimming and walking are both easy on your body and tend to tone the whole body, without injuring you.

Lol if you sit always at the computer, you are sure to gain weight, there may be back pain, waist pain etc, walking or some kind of physical activity is required, swimming, rope jumping, working in garden, even walking inside your room, you may try.. Have you ever tried the breathing exercises as taught by Ramdev Baba of india? Professor. . Cheers have a great day ahead. God bless you. Welcome always. Thanks for this discussion

GG,taking a walking in the morning is a nice exercise to keep fit. But i'm a lazy girl, and can not get up at 6-7 am. So jogging in the morning is impracticable. While i love playing badminton twice a week for 2 hours each time.

See, I could exercise with TV, or videos. I have DVD's and tapes I bought at yard sales, and never used. With some cooler weather I hope to do more.

I need to get more fit, I don't walk or do anything like that anymore. I used to walk more, but after I quit my job three years ago and then got another job last year and got laid off, I've just not been moving around.. bad bad I know.

I haven't gone for a walk in awhile. I was doing it a few times a week in the spring and early summer.. but now I'm getting lazy and just want summer to be over with so I'm not enjoying the summer weather so much. I was walking just for something to do really. I go to the gym a few times a week so I don't need to walk for fitness.

I do enjoy taking walks. Usually, I take walks for my own pleasure rather than for fitness. I find that it's relaxing and pleasant to go for walks.

I consider walking on my way to work is a little form of exercise, but I also attend tae-bo sessions then jog a bit in the afternoon at least twice a week. but i've been busy at work, so I didn't have much time for that lately. I wish to enroll in a dance class...I enjoy working out through dancing...
