What's the quality that television people find on hopeful auditioners?

I've at least tried to audition on 4 different shows to become part of a reality TV show. I never made it. I've always tried to come up with originality. Why doesn't it work? I try to be myself and be unique, that doesn't work either.
How can one shine in front of a judge?
