Cassette tapes and records, do you still have them?

Today I was looking for a notebook and I found some of my old cassette tapes. I had so many cassette tapes when I was a teenager and I loved my walkman. My brother and I often made our own tapes, and for my grandmother's birthday we sang for her and recorded the songs on tapes Now I usually listen to cds or music that I have downloaded from the internet, and my cassette tapes just collect dust, but I still keep them or some of them at least. I don't have my records anymore. I haven't had a record player for many, many years, so I wouldn't be able to listen to them. I gave them away many years ago.
Do still have your old records/cassette tapes or did you sell them or throw them out long time ago? Did you ever make your own tapes? Do you own a tape recorder or a record player?

My dad used to keep the old 78's gramophone records. I thought he was a little crazy (when I was a kid) but now I can understand the fascination of collecting things, especially music. I had to let my records and tapes go because I travel so much, but I really miss them. DVD's are great but somehow, they don't have the same appeal as records had. Now, what will be next?

When I was a child my parents also collected records. They used to have a lot of them especially jazz and some of the local bands from my country, and I remember listening to them and dancing in the livingroom. I think that my parents still keep their old records, but they haven't got a record player, so they aren't able to listen to them. I also miss some of my records, but I have travelled a lot and I have moved many times and I wasn't able to keep all of my old things.

I am in the same situation. The music on some of my tapes would be hard to find on the internet. Some of the tapes I have bought in other countries and some of the or bands are old or not very famous, so if I want to listen to those songs I have to listen to tapes. Fortuneately I still have a tape recorder, so I am able to listen to my old tapes.

Estonia?! Wow, how precious! I did see a turn table on sale at my local Kmart, 99.99. Not bad, it had a CD player and a cassette player too.

It is great that you are still able to listen to both records and cassettes. I haven't have a record for player for many years, but my tape recorder still works. While I am writing this I am listening to some tapes that I bought in Estonia many years ago. I still remember some of the songs and it brings back a lot of old memories.

Hi Porcospino,
Yes I do still have my cassette tapes and vinyl records. Somehow, I haven't been able to bring myself to getting rid of them. Some of them are my mother's who passed away some years ago. Not only are them memories of her, but she has some really old record from some great artists that are not longer around.
I do plan to get rid of them someday, but not until I purchase a converter record player where I can transfer the music from the vinyl records to CDs. The same with the cassette tapes. I would like to get rid of them, but not before I have transferred music.
By transferring the music before I get rid of the old items, I will not only gain much needed space in my home, I will be preserving the music and memories.

Transfering the music sounds like a good idea. I understand why you want to keep the music and the memories. I also have some old cassette tapes that used to belong to my parents. I think it is nice to have some of the music that they listened to when they were younger. I didn't keep my records, because I haven't had a record player for many years, and I have moved many times, so I wasn't able to keep everything. Sometimes I wish that I had kept some of them.

Hi Porcopino,
Your story is exactly why I want to get the music transferred as soon as I have another nice break, maybe a three day weekend. I don't want to lose any of it in a move or they get broken. I do enjoy listen to the old music my mom use to love.

I used to have so many cassette tapes and records. This was how music was available when I was a teenager. Now those items are locked away in an attic collecting unwanted dust. I can't part with them, but i don't use them anymore. When the CD came along, it changed the way that i buy music. Now my CD collection will probably surpass my tape and record collection. I wonder when something will come to replace the CD.

When I was teenager I also used cassette tapes and records. Cds started to appear around that time, but for a long time I had only a few cds and several cassette tapes and records. I loved the cassette tapes that I recorded myself, because that way I was able to get exactly the songs that I wanted. Now we can make our own cds on the computer, but that wasn't possible at that time and only pre-recorded cds existed.

I still have one cassette tapes with me. That is a birthday gift from my friend. But I have all my other cassette tapes throw away. They seem useless now because the only cassette player in my house was spoiled, I can't play them anymore. Now I use computer or laptop to play songs. I seldom buy CD also because I can play the song I download from my pendrive to the music player. Technologies have changed everything in our life and I wonder what is gonna be in the next ten years...

I sometimes think about the same thing and I wonder what is going to happen in the future and how people are going to listen to music in the future. I still remember the days when we borrowed records at the library. They were removed from the libraries a long time ago and replaced by cds. Cds are still available at the libraries in my country, but it is also possible to download music from the websites of the libraries. The music is automatically deleted after one month. So much has changed since the time when I was a child and I am sure that new things will appear in the future as well.

I used to have tapes. As a child, I used tapes to listen to music. However, I don't have them anymore. I stopped using tapes, when I got a CD player and such. It's then that I started using CD's over tapes. I got rid of my tapes a while back, as I wasn't using them anymore.

I have many cassettes which are lying unused in my cupboard. Many of them are pre-recorded tapes and many are tapes which i recorded from the radio or from tapes of others. I too have a Sony walkman which i haven`t used for many months as having heard my tapes for hundreds of times i am now bored of them. I have a few cd`s but only can hear them on my computer.I have an amplifier and speakers which are also lying unused and i am thinking of disposing them off cheaply if i can find a buyer. My brother had collected many LP records which are still lying in my cupboard and i can`t play them as i don`t have a turn table.

Just like you I have pre-recorded cassette tapes as well as tapes that I have recorded myself. Yesterday I found some old cassette tapes and I decided to listen to one of them, that was a nice change as I usually listen to cds or music that I have downloaded on my computer. I can see why you get tired of your tapes when you have already listened to them so many times, I used to feel that way about some of my tapes, but now I haven't listened to them for a very long time and now I enjoy listening to them again.

Yes I got all my records and old cassette tapes plus some 8 track tapes. What a job to put them on CD. I would be there doing it for about 2 to 3 weeks because I got so many I have a job trying to sort them out. They go back to early 50s 60s 70s 80s then there are rock roll.then disco.then pop. country. that's only a few.
And the movies sound tracks from them.

I have never tried to put my own tapes on cd, but I can imagine that it is a lot of work when you have so many tapes. It must be interesting to have so many different tapes from different decades and different genres. Most of my tapes are from the 80's, but I have a few tapes from the the 60's and the 70's as well. The tapes from the 60's and the 70's used to belong to my parents and the tapes from the 80's are my own.

I kept my cassette tapes in the drawer for many many years in my hometown. Sometimes I back and take them out, just take out and have a look, since I have no walkman any more. The most expensive one is the TITANIC, which the theme song "My heart will go on" was popular at that time. That cassette tape makes me recalled that classsic and moving film.

I remember the movie "Titanic" and the song "My heart will go on". That song was really popular around that time and the radio stations in my country played it all the time. I think that I also had the song on cassette tape, but I am not sure if I still have the tape. I remember when watching "Titanic" at the movies with some friends, I have also watched it at home (later), but I especially remember the first time that I saw it and I remember my friends from that time.

Yeah, that's pretty cool when u sang for your grandma with your brother, anyway, good memory. I have kept many classical CDs and cassette tapes with me, especially light music. And I would listen to them while I feel dull, coz I want to remind that life is precious actually. Cool feeling.

Yes, I still have the cassette tapes of all my favorite songs and music, the famous oldies. Yeah, I won't throw them away. They are invaluable treasures for me, keeping the memories of those times when I had plenty of time to relax and enjoy. Of course, many of those songs are now available on CDs, with better sound qualities.

I personally only own a few cassette tapes but they stay in the car. All the other type of music I have is on cd or on the computers in the house.
