I know people that text all of the time, even more than they talk on their cell phone. And yes, I believe that teens with cell phones text the most. I think it can become addictive, just like computer addiction. I believe at one point I was addicted to Mylot, just typing and reading discussions. There are drivers who try to text and drive at the same time. Now that's dangerous, because it could cause an accident.
I'm not a heavy text messenger because I'm busy on the computer. But if I did't have that, I'll probably turn to text messaging, if I just really have to communicate with others. I don't talk on the phone much either. Sometimes I prefer to send an email or text message rather than phoning if it's not an emergency or something I'm excited about. Most of the time, nothing is really going on, so it causes for a text or email.
I know someone who never talks on the phone. She just texts back and forth. I assume she has the patients to punch the words in, and wait patiently for a response. Maybe it can be good for developing patients. Hmmm

PS. I don't think it's evil in itself. It's how people use and abuse it is what makes it dangerous and addictive. The computer isn't evil itself, it's how people use it to do evil.

I'm pretty sure that texting could become an addiction especially in teenagers, but I am not addicted at all! I have a family to take care of and other things to do with my time then sit around texting people all day!

My 14yo daughter's cell phone just stopped working for no reason. It is still under warranty so I took it to the store and they shipped it off to the manufacturer. That was a week ago. My daughter is going nuts without the phone. She keeps coming to me and asking me when she is getting her phone back. She is bored out of her mind without it because she and her friends communicate constantly via texting.
She wants me to buy her a new one instead... said the other is a piece of junk anyway. The prices of cell phones have dropped so much that I am considering doing this... a different brand though. No more LG.

It definitely could end up as an addiction. I was a little bit addicted to it a few years back. There was even a time when we started out this texting group, just to see how many members we can get to join. It ended up being a pretty big group. During that time, I was sending about 500 messages a day. And I even receive more messages than that. When you have nothing to do all day, that can be a little fun.

i dont think i could ever get addicted to texting it takes to long to have a converstion it is alot eaiser just to call the person and talk it takes a tenth of the time. but some times its nice cause if you dont want to talk to the person you can just text.

I know I sound wierd when I say this but I haven't had a cellphone for a few years now and I don't really miss having one. I'm not that big into them and I don't think that people have a life if they always have a phone to their ear or texting people. yeah it's a great piece of technology to have but people seem to take it too far. It's like with texting you don't even talk to people so you have friends but what your saying is I have friends but I really don't want to hear their voice. Yes, It is an addiction and a growing problem. Think about all the radiation exposer due to talking on your phone and not to mention all the people that use their phone while they drive. They need to take the oprah callenge and stop endangering peoples lifes.
