My husband, daughter, cat and I went fishing last weekend. I usually enjoy going along with my folder chair, my book, coffee and my cat while hubby and child do the fishing. My daughter loves it and she goes equipped with her very own pink rod. They don’t usually catch anything but they have fun anyway. Well I changed things this weekend didn’t I? I decided to have a little go at this fishing caper and guess what??? I caught a fish! A real and edible fish! My first go and there you have it! Of course I sat there all day and didn’t catch another thing else...Talk about beginner’s luck!
One of my neighbours told me of a woman who picked up a golf stick for the first time in her life and hit a hole in one! She gave up golf after that because she figured she reached her goal!
Has anything like that ever happened to you? Do you have any beginner’s luck stories?

hi paula so you almost got hooked on fishing. I used to love to go
fishing as we w ent on weekends to the black Hills in South Dakota and its so beautiful up there anyway. we fished for trout and we usu ally got enough for a nice fish fry , when I got tired of fishing I would hike up the road as the hills are really wonderfully scenic. I now live in Ca and have not been back in fifty years. the winters are killers and I am not fond of cold and snow and freezing. I went bowling once and it was my first time and I made tens every time so never went back as everyone thought I was a pro and i had never bowled before in my life.Like when we played monopoly I usually won and nobody would play with me anymore and yet I had never cheated at all.Odd how a family can get jealous of its own loved ones over a silly game. he he he.

People can get very competitive! I've never enjoyed fishing to be honest. I just thought I would give it a go to make hubby and child happy and never dreamed I would actually catch something! I am not even all that fond of fish although I do eat it! We went fishing in the Swan River which runs right through our city' it's a good fishing spot and lots of people go there. Pro bowler ha? (LOL)! Thanks for your response Hatley!

I'm hoping my response will show up this time. I hit 'submit', but it didn't show up. I hit refresh, but still nothing. So if I have a duplicate answer here, sorry 'bout that! Anyway, that's pretty cool. I haven't been fishing in at least 15 years. Did you use your daughter's rod? When I was a kid I didn't go often, so I just used whatever rod the adult nearest me had. A pink one would have been cool. Maybe you are officially your daughter's good luck charm. : ) You caught a fish, but your expertise will now be passed to her....

I didn't use my daughter's rod because she wouldn't let me! It was truly beginner's luck because I didn't catch another thing after that and neither did my family! The pink rod is cute, she loves it especially because daddy bought it for her, it's a real rod, not a toy and my hubby says it is better than his! Thanks for being here Pam, glad your response got through!

Hi Paula! I am happy for you that you had a good day's outing with family , the highlight being a 'beginner's luck'. As far as my story goes, it dates back to 1996 or 1997 . I cannot rememeber. But this was the year when dematerialisation of shares came into prominence in our country[earlier it was all buying/selling physical cerificates with the minimum lot being 50 shares for a share with Facevalue of Rs10]
With dematerialisation things were simplified and online trading and investing were introduced.[electronic holdings] I was already steeped in stock market with a lot of prior experience and when I invested for the first time in this mode of operation, luck favoured me and I did get a profit in that particualr scrip. However, it was the 'beginning' only for that sort of trading. I have always been in the stock market and am still there.Whatever it is, it was a sort of a 'beginning' that day.

That is good positive way to start on any venture! I haven't experienced any other instances of beginner's luck aside from the fishing experience. I hope you have more positive results from investing Kalav! Thanks for responding!

well, it wasn't exactly beginners luck, but the first day of archery in college I strung a bow that was thought by the teacher to be too heavy for me (she was giving the gals 15 lb bows and I strung a 25 lb one) Actually, I showed off and strung a 35 lb one that a guy was having trouble with, but I really couldn't pull that one. Then, when we went out I hit not only the first bulls eye, but the only 3 bulls eyes that entire class. I was kind of a "ringer" tho, because I had archery at camp... I also put a couple of arrows THRU the target so to pull them out I had to go to the back and pull them out that way.
on the other hand, I couldn't hit a badminton birdy for LOVE nor MONEY, and it was archery and badminton... I did pass the written part of the class on both subjects tho...

It sounds as though it wasn't luck but natural ability! Fancy using a heavier bow and hitting a bulls eye! It sounds to me like you did very well at college! As for me I haven't managed another fish and more than likely never will which is fine because I am not really into fishing! As far as natural ability...Not sure I have any (LOL)!Thanks for responding Elic!

Hiya Pauline. The only thing that comes to mind was when I won bingo for the very first time. Though come to think of it, I don't remember if I won the first time I went or if it was the second. But that's only because it's been a while since I went! LOL However, I do remember my mom thinking that my husband was bad luck because when he went with us the next couple of times I didn't win again! LOL
Anyway, congrats on your very first catch! Way to go!
Happy mylotting!

It wasn't too bad. I won $250 that day.
I liked fishing well enough when I was little, but don't care so much for it now. One of my cousins and his ex brother-in-law they kind of ruined it for me when I was a teen. I haven't gone fishing since. LOL

I am not too keen on fishing at all. I usually sit and read while my daughter and husband wait for the fish to bite; they wait...And wait...And wait (LOL)I didn't need to wait that time! It was fun to see their faces as I pulled up a fish! I will leave the fishing to them in the future though...Thanks gabs!

I heard that story, Paula. you really got to be lucky to do something like that on the first go. Yours could be experience though. Even though you haven't really tried it before but have been hearing your hubby talking about the tricks. So, that could be the thing. And of course your luck favored you that day. BTW, What did you do with the fish?

Hi Paula!
It sounds interesting and amusing that you hit the nail, at the first go and I can understand your happiness and delight on catching an edible fish. I think 'fishing' itself is one of the most interesting activity. I cannot recall any such incident, where I succeeded at my first attempt.

I can't recall any other time I did that either. It was definitely a first and more than likely the last because I could not catch anything else for the next few hours and probably never will! I still don't enjoy fishing all that much but I will go again to spend time with my loved ones...Thanks for responding deepak!

Even it may be your first (and may be last experience in your own words) but I am very sure you will remember it for a long long time. . It is possible that your first success may prompt you to again go for 'fishing'.

ha ha ha ....thats very nice...actually it happens many times that you keep observing some things very keenly but never do it...and you don't know when you become master of it
so you accidentally became the master ...congrats for your first edible fish

This often happens to me, the first picture I ever took was the best, the first dress I made was the best, why I then continue to do these things I don't know, there is some little devil in me that says you can do better, it never happens that way all I get from continuing is stress.

I know what you mean; that is why I probably will not fish very often from now on because I just know that it won't be easy to repeat my first experience! I haven't had any other lucky firsts that I can remember, this one was fun I must say! Thanks Pat!

Way to go Paula! I love to fish! It has been way to hot to enjoy fishing here though...even in the mornings. It is starting to cool down a little and I am hoping to go before the winter months. I guess the only beginner luck story that I can think of is going to ski and making it home in one piece...lol...I made it down the mountain on my feet. I think getting off the ski lift was the scariest part of it though...lol....you had to be very quick.

I've been on ski lifts and I know what you mean...It feels as though you have to jump off real fast! I haven't being skiing since I was really young; I wonder how I would do now...I enjoy going along with my family but fishing is not really my thing, I just like sitting there reading while they fish, never thought I would catch one on my first go! Thanks Jen!

It has been quite a few years since I last fished. Since it is so expensive around here to even consider it, with a Fishing license. etc. it has never been considered. But sometimes I do miss it. But you do have something there... A lot of times when people are wanting to try something New when something happens for them the First time instead of having to work for it they do give up, but it really depends on if you enjoy what you do as to how long you will do it.

I don't enjoy fishing all that much although it was fun to catch a fish and see my husband and daughter's shocked faces (LOL)! We fish in our Swan River which runs through the city and we are not required to have any licences so for us it is a very cheap pastime! It is winter here at the moment and it was a rare thing for us to do at this time of year; we do go in the summer evenings and make a picnic out of it and I usually prefer sitting back reading instead of fishing! Thanks for joining my discussion KrauseHome!

I remember fondly as a teenager that I went along to an old folks home and played whist with them, I love card games and they had regular whist drives, well it was fun and it got me out and the old folks liked me being there, anyhow I got invited to bingo, I had played bingo at the seaside and so I knew how to play, well the first time I went along, I kept winning, I actually felt embarrassed, because some people get really serious when it comes to bingo and being a beginner and young it caused a stir, a few mumbles, mutters and 'beginners luck' I decided it would be better to stick to whist and I didn't return to bingo after that. Hope you enjoyed your fish btw ;0)

I did enjoy the fish thanks! We went again the other night and I didn't catch a thing although my nine year old daughter caught a crab of all things! We threw it back into the water because we didn't see much point in taking it home...Thanks for responding wolfie34, always great to hear from you!

I bet you had fun, didn't you? When I was able to fish, I went all the time and loved it. Being on a boat on the water or on the side of the lake is so peaceful and great but now that I have lupus, I can't be in the sun or near water that the sun is shining on because it reflects back on me and I'll break out. It sucks but that's life, ya know? So now I just stay on the side lines WAY away from the water and pray that hubby catches a fish or two for me to eat. He doesn't like fish but I sure do! Especially catfish. Gosh! I'm getting hungry!

I am not really into fishing to be honest and had a turn just for fun; never thought I would actually catch anything (LOL)! I usually enjoy just sitting in the shade and read with my cat while drinking coffee! It was funny to see my family's faces when I pulled out a fish! Thanks Cats, hope your hubby catches some nice catfish for you!

I would have to think about beginers luck in my case. I do remember I won the first time I went to a casino. But that is just luck. What you did was a prowess: you a a natural. Congratulations!

I don't know about that because I don't particularly like to fish! I did it because my husband and daughter kept calling out to me to have a go and the look on their faces when I pulled out a fish was priceless! Wouldn't mind a win at the Casino....Thanks marguicha!

I also went once with my friend for fishing. We both enjoyed very much but did not catch any fish.
Here in our country we have a lot of fishing spots, but we have less experience in fishing. No one is following correct techniques.

We wouldn't have a clue about techniques either! I never really tried fishing before, my husband set the rod up for me, I threw it in and lo and behold I caught a fish! It was definitely just luck! Thanks for responding naimakhalid!
