I think that I am very blessed with having a rather large family.
I have five children aged betwee 38 and 14 and nine grandchildren aged between 14 and two, my tenth grandchild is due anytime.
It can be very hectic at times when we are all toogether, it certainly is expensive when it comes to Christmas but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Each one of them brings their own love adn affection.
Do you have a large family or do you prefer to have fewer children?
I have enclosed a picture of the oldest and youngest member of my children and grandchildren (until number 10 arrives anyway!) - this is my eldest daughter Helen with her two year pold daughter Isabelle on a recent holiday to Disneyland Paris.

wow!!! your family picture is cute.. I belong to a big family and I am the eldest daughter.. I have six younger siblings.., and I am proud to say that my siblings are the closest thing i've ever had.. and I thank God for them.., despite the trial that my parents are having.., My siblings and I are not shaken because we still have each other to turn to.. I miss them so much.. I wish I can afford to go home as frequent than I could.. I can't help but cry when I opened this topic.. Guess I miss my siblings more than I realized.., God Bless your family..=)

Nice family! I have a huge family too. Oh wait, not my own, I'm still single. Father's side, they're 4 siblings, 1 is a nun. I have 7 cousins, plus me and my brother, we're 9 kids in total. Mother's side, they're 10 siblings, 1 is sick and does not have a family of her own. Cousins? We got lost in counting, last count is 25 including me and my brother. Cousin's sons and daughters, they're growing in numbers, some of them, I know their faces, but does not know their whole name, I just know the nickname.

One of the greatest pleasure we can ever have in life is family. Whether your family is big or small, they are the ones who can enrich your life and bring you joy beyond belief. we do have unruly moments with our families, but what would we do without them. Family is usually the first place to turn when you are troubled. the pleasure your family can give you outweighs any obstacles in your life.

My family isnt really large. There's just my mom and my dad, my sister and her husband and two nephews, there's my brother and his wife and another nephew and another baby coming this year and me and my husband and my older sister and the fiance. Hopefully we will have a baby soon so that it would add up to the number of the members of our family.

Today we speak about the nuclear family or a micro family. It is due to the lack of means to bring up a larger family. Our family system underwent a transition. The national leaders and the Socialist advocated for two children, a son to give continuity and the daughter to add the beauty.
Earlier The salary of the husband assured the economic welfare and the Mother with her total commitment served the home by lavishing love and comfort by sacrificing what is herself.
Not to prolong today both the couples demand to be equal, asking for democratically set up, and the professional couple opt to live alone and go without children. But If we watch the signs of time today being SINGLE is the modern trend and associate oneself with the temporary or long commitment to a organization to get the social recognition seems to be an alternative to achieve happiness. But the discovery is that the society at its different epoch may choose a value but nothing is absolute if we do not possess to heart to love , a head to be wise and the hands to serve and give a proof of consistency.

To me my grandchildren are the greatest things in my life. I have three (girl 5yrs,boy 2 1/2yrs and baby girl born in Feb.). They are full of surprises. I only had one child, and he made me wait for grandchildren, till i was in my 50's.
Wow 10 of them, they surely would make your day.

I intended to have a larger family, but things changed, and two kids were enough. I could enjoy more grand kids, however. When families get along and truly care for one another, the larger the better, but if they pick at each other and are jealous, you are just as well off with two. My two are exceptional in how well they get along and I am so proud of them. They have always cared for each other. You do sound as if you have your hands quite full.

You are truly blessed to have such a family. Srjac has made some valid points that are sad, but true. I have even heard the statistic that there will be more single person housholds by 2013.
A family is the nucleous of society. God intended us to be part of a family in order to have and learn love, sacrifice, protection, and have care and warmth. It is in the circle of the family that we are to learn character and citizenship as well.
Those who would destroy family, such as Socialists, secularists, etc. want to remove all family protections so that they may engage in tyranny and make us subject to their will, not God's will, and the protection and liberty only He can give us. Strong families make for strong countries. The destruction of families is high on the agenda of "powers and principalities" which seek to remove freedom, individuality, and sovereignty. We all should know where these forces are leading us.

Being that I did not have a mother or father as I was raised in the foster care system, I have to say I would have preferred a big family as well.
Now I have two children and wished I had more, although I could still have more but with my circumstance it would not be advisable. You say that at time it can be quite hectic and that is understandable as you think about the gatherings you light up with joy.
God bless you and your family.
