one of my friends had a laptop. the mother board of that was gone out of order and company asked him for more than $400 and for other one more than $600 even the worth of laptop was nearly $1000. so why they are charging the cost too much. is this fair. wht you say.

It's because MOBOs are often specific to particular models and so they can't just switch in generic parts like they can with other bits.

a few days ago, my laptop (HP Pavilion tx1012) also damaged by indications can't 'booting', only showing black screen without signs of running processes. The next day I brought my laptop to HP service center with hope there are not permanent damage. Apparently, technician told that the motherboard needs to be replaced and the price of new motherboard is 1.2 million rupiah! I was surprised to hear it. Then I asked him why this damage could happen. Then her explanation thus: AMD processors are due to heat in the processing of data, there are parts of the circuit on the motherboard is going short circuit will burn. There is no other way other than to replace the existing motherboard. HP officials also suggested that when using a laptop, you should pay attention to the condition of the velocity of the air around my laptop. This was very important. Do not let your laptop shortage of 'fresh air' when working. This can allow the occurrence of such cases that I experienced.

In electronics more smaller means more costlier. To produce a smaller version of a specific technology in electronics, it is required to have smaller components, leading to a larger scale of integration of circuits into one another which are complex to build, resulting high costs.

thanks for the response. yes i agree. but how a motherboard can have the cost more than 50% of the laptop cost.
