I forgot what I went out to buy

One good thing about my move is that I am now close to everything I live right off of the main shopping mall.
I went out to the grocery IGA to get ingredients for spaghetti, I got everything and was really proud of myself. This is the first time I have been able to shop in years, for the last 5 years my son has been doing the shopping because I couldn't walk that far to the grocery store, now it is just down the block.
I came home very happy. I unpacked and guess what I forgot the main ingredient, I forgot to buy the hamburger meat.
Has this every happened to anyone else?

Sometimes I make spaghetti without hamburger. But it is great to hear that you are now able to go places and shopping it must be so fun exploring the stores again. I love shopping and it never fails that I forget something or another but I live over 10 miles from the store in town and no vehicle.(my mom takes me to do my main grocery shopping once a month).so if I forget something I have to buy from the little country store close where we live where everything is triple or even more then the store in town. Actually funny story I did in fact forgot to buy hamburger meat at all in the month of July so we had to do without it all month. I made sure in August that I had it in my cart..first thing..My husband loves his meals that has hamburger in them and he got sick of only chicken all month...lol

Yeah, I myself don't get out much in winter at all. I live on a hill and if I don't want to fall or slide down the hill with a chance of getting hurt pretty bad I just stay inside but once a month..

Yep me too, I get sick of eating chicken and I love my hamburger.
I love my area now, it is so good to be able to get out and about again. Of course I will not be doing it in the winter but it is so nice to take advantage of it now.

I've done that too many times to count! Well, I normally have a few specific things I want from the grocery store, then buy more than I expected to only to find out once I get home that I forgot one or two of the main things I went to the store for in the first place.
I try to keep at least a pound of ground beef or ground turkey in the freezer. Actually, I like to keep a pound of both in there. When I make spaghetti, I mix the ground beef and ground turkey together. The turkey alone just doesn't have enough flavor (probably because it lacks fat) but I want to eat healthier so I don't want to use all ground beef. Mixing the two works for me. And, it works for all kinds of things, including hamburgers and sloppy joes.

that is such a great idea but my son is so darn fuzzy he refused to eat anything but ground beef. I have ground pork in the freezer but he will not touch it.

When I had to move into this one bedroom temperarily I realized we had no convenience store or drive thru around here. Down where I was(and am moving back in September) we had Wendy's, Albertson's, park, bank, mexican restaurant, Stinker station, KFC, Taco Bell and Jackson's all within three blocks of our apartment. Here there is a Taco Time but way up the road several blocks. I have forgotten to buy stuff before and we have ended up having something different and getting the missing ingredient the next day.

Aww winterose I do sympathise.I find it difficult remembering things if there's music going on in the store distracting me. It's happening everywhere now and it drives me nuts. I haven't forgotten anything (yet) but this music is making it more likely that I will in future. As for lists, I don't do them because I'd forget to write down everything I need lol.

My children tell me that when a person gets older it is not uncommon for them to be think one thing and I usually try to write what I need on a list so that when I get to the store I will -I lost my train of thought
It happens to the best of us old or not so old people.

I try to always make a list when i go shopping. i know if i don'tr i will probably forget the one item that I needed to buy. Nothing is more annoying when you go shopping and forget what you wanted to buy in the first place.

It happens to me all the time! For example today, I thought I had bought enough but I just forgot the main reason why I went to the supermarket: to buy bread.
Later I went again to the shop nearby, but they had run out of bread, so I will go again tomorrow and hope not to forget it this time

I also have this same experience. My father asked me to buy corned beef, onions , cooking oil and potatoes in the market. I was able to buy the potatoes, cooking oil and onions and I forgot the corned beef. My brother laughed at me because of this. He asked me how can father cooked corned beef with potatoes without the corned beef itself. I was really ashame of myself because of it. I gave it some thought why I forgot the main ingredient of the dish. I came up with an answer that maybe I was just so excited about it that I forgot what I have to buy. Well, this experience was a funny one for me. I can called this short term memory loss experience.

in my case I think it was the experience of a new store and I was concentrating on finding everything, the meat was in plain site but the Parmesan cheese wasn't and I had to ask where that was.

Yes, I have encountered this many many many times. I go out wanting to buy this specific thing. In the end, I bought many other things yet forgot to buy the specific thing that I wanted.
Not to mention buying things. I can even forgot what I wanted to do when I leave my room for the kitchen.
Perhaps I just a forgetful person!

Yes. I went to a mall 15-30minutes away from my house really determined to buy something I know I really needed. When I got there, I can't remember it. I went around and around the supermarket hoping to remember what it was that I needed to buy, but I still can't remember it. I just dropped the thought, and when I got home I remember I was running out of sanitary napkins(yes we don't have tampons here). Good thing there was a store near our house which sells them.

I make a list, then forget to take it. I guess that is just as bad or even worse. I am so glad you live closer to where you need to shop. I am sure that is a relief.

now that is funny you make a list and forget that.
Sometimes you just have to laugh at life.
Yes it is such a relief to be so close now to things. I don't know if I will be able to walk in the winter but for now it is wonderful.

Wow, that's amazing. I guess I take for granted having a vehicle to drive and get my own groceries. I wish there was a grocery store within walking distance to me. Then again, I'd probably have to make a lot of little trips to be able to carry it all home. But after your mess with that other place, this has got to seem amazing. I'm glad for you. I've shopped before for a specific meal, and asked myself in the store if I had everything, and left thinking I had bought everything I needed. And then I'll get home to make hamburgers and have no bread.

yep isn't it incredible, you can make hamburgers without out bread, and I can\t make a spaghetti sauce without the meat, I know vegans can but I am not a vegan.
If I wanted a big order at the grocery store I would just have them deliver it. That wouldn't really be a big deal. The problem for me was the walking distance to get there and back.

Glad to know that you gave a great time do your own shopping.
It is definitely a good idea to get 'a breath of fresh air'
and a good exercise. Yes, I at times do forget to buy the item
which I intended originally due to my excitement to see and
buy other items on promotion / offer. Therefore, it is best
to prepare a list on what items to buy in a piece of paper
while we shop to avoid forgetting the items and to observe
to my budget. All the best

Yes it happens to us a lot. We go to the store looking for something and leave the store with a bunch of other things but not what we went for in the first place. Also we have gotten to the store and said now what was it that we needed. I can see why those little tape recorders are so popular for grocery shoppers. When we stock up on groceries, we make a list so we try not to forget anything but a lot of times we do and end up having to go back the next day.
