There are people who compares Kaichou wa Maid-sama and Special A. They are debating of which anime has a better plot, story development, and of course the characters, especially the Lead characters. Misaki and Usui VS Hikari and Kei.
Kaichou wa Maid-sama and Special A are both about school kids falling in love and have a very similar characters. The girl is working hard to overtake the guy, but the guy is always far off front of her. But despite of it, they have feelings for each other. Hikari and Misaki are both strong-willed, smart, competitive, and tough. Kei and Usui are both smart, strong, arrogant, and love to tease the girl (Misaki/Hikari).
Yeah, maybe they are really have a lot of similarities, but still, they have their own uniqueness.

I've only ever read up to... 5? volumes of Special A and followed the anime more than the manga with Kaichou wa Maid-sama but I'll definitely pick Kaichou wa Maid-Sama over Special A any day. I love Hikari and Misaki dearly, but while Usui bores me quite a bit, he's still miles better from the uninteresting and abusive Kei. It irritates me that Hikari tries her best in everything but Kei beats her all the time without even seeming to work for it. And there's the fact that she's always being blamed for not noticing Kei's feelings when he's not really saying anything.
I have a ton of issues with Kei. He's just the type of character I can't like.
My issues with S.A., let me show it to you. :P

Haven't watch Maid-sama, but I do watch Special A. Not sure about the similarities though. But maybe, just maybe, the person who made it is the same, or worked together. Just like Doraemon, it has another version, though the kid is now the genius one.
