For all its good intents and charitable purposes, I still think the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant is a sham, deceiving young girls that they can conquer the universe when all the dream it entails is nothing but vainglory.

Hiya eileen, They fill their Heads with Stories and hype about things that will just not happen. In a way I feel sorry for them because for the high hopes that they give them at the start. Then if they don´t win they come out on the Television on Reality Programs saying she cheated the other one cheated and try to tear each other to pieces. Even their Moms come out defending them too and so it goes on for weeks at a time. I just cannot be bothered to listen to them. Using their Mothers I think is terrible too. At least this is the way it happens here what about over there?

Hi Angel, I really don't bother either with the triviality of Miss Universe. But my attention was taken by our candidate ending 4th runner-up and my countrymen are sort of sour graping because the final question asked was uncomfortably personal. My people may have a point because who would ever want to tell the world what mistake he/she had done. Psychologically, people would want their mistakes kept secret or private, why divulge it to the world? Sigh!

Hiya eileen, I can see what you mean. I would not want to divulge any secrets of mine either not likely. Even if I were going to Miss Universe my secrets are for me and no one else thank you very much. But yes these Girls are on the Reality Shows here which I don´t watch very much at all as all they do as you say is to sour grape at each other all Day long. By the stage where they drag their Mothers in that is a definite turn over to another Channel.

Fame and fortune? Recognition? Popularity? Statistics-wise, how many girls have joined and how many had won? Afterwards, how many do we remember? Reality check, after the pageant, the twenty minute of fame of the new Miss Universe had already subsided. I think Miss Universe is only an added annual income generator for Trump!

What?! Someone fell for that wax looking mummy? Or it was probably just for the dough. I apologize for being unkind but I couldn't say otherwise. I like the costume parade, too. If only the Miss Universe could be true to its cause...

hi eileenleyva yes I do agree its all pretty shallow and sort of a sham. For one thing it makes the beautiful girls look toward the glitter and glamour of movie stars and models when only one is ever going to win. Has beens come up with zip. de nada, nothing, goose egg.

I think they all should be done away with. If i had a daughter i wouldn't want her to be in one of them. They treat women like a bunch of prize horses. Happy weekend to u.

Bull's eye, ANTIQUELADY! A friend once told me this was the prime breeding ground for international CGs.

Hi Ms Eileen! I do not agree with what you say because winning and getting the tittle of the said contest can be a route to success. I think every country is giving a very important focus of this pride. Isn't it that the beauty of a fit, healthy, well-proportioned human is something we can all take pleasure, and miss universe, world, etc.. are vehicles which enables us to do so? I did not pick your candidate when I first read their incoming competition but I ended-up admiring her. She did not success to get the tittle but I think she's the winner. Congratulations to her and to you anyway!

Kumar, there are many ways of showing a perfect healthy body, by engaging in sports, for one. And rumor has it that the candidates for this pageant had their faces and bodies clinically enhanced.

I don't know how one can derive pleasure just by looking at a fit, healthy, well-proportion female body. Shouldn't the inner beauty be dominating everywhere? Our attitude towards pleasure will cause ruin for us all. I don't know if they clinically enhance their bodies, but I certainly believe that attaching excessive importance to appearance lowers our self-esteem and undermines our morale.

Hi, I don't have high regards for beauty. I mean, they are okay to make love with but not always okay to depend on. I think we should change promoting outside beauty and start encouraging something more profound. In one of my recent discussions I tried to point out the disadvantage of a beautiful person http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2385167.aspx but not many people actually understood the point. In order to have a first hand experience of the vanity of one has to be both beautiful and wise. Beauty is to attract them and wisdom is to identify them. I don't know why we are more inclined to things that have little or no truth in it. Why don't we use someone with a good and devoted soul for this purpose? Beautiful persons can be charming enough to be convincing. Shouldn't we be teaching young girls to be independent, aware, wise instead of encouraging them to be pretty? This is a world wide ailment that creates only false belief and illusion. Thanks. God bless you
