Are you afraid of lightnings and thunders!

I know most people would cower under tables when lightnings flash and thunders rumble. I just saw a bunch of young men dash inside the lobby because the lightning zigged our way. Oh well, I hope that doesn't put a minus on the machismo. I really don't know. Probably I am the weirdo. But I love spectacular heavenly shows. I love looking up when I am outdoors. There is so much to behold, the different cloud formations with varying shades of white, black and grey, and sometimes, with silver lining streaks, the rain and later, the rainbow. Wow! Ain't that breathtaking? But when the lightning and the thunder choose to make a play by play, gosh, the show couldn't get any better!

I love lightning and thunder sweetie.
The bigger the storms the happier i am.
I don't think you are a weirdo and those who dashed for the lobby might have a bit of good sense.
Or they just don't know what they really miss in life.
Nothing like a good hard thunderstorm.
You should see my dogs when we have heavy weather, they try to catch the lightning.
TATA.

Well, I try not to be under trees when there's lightning but I can be outside if there's lightning. But not my girlfriend. She is very afraid of getting struck by lightning. I kind of like watching the skys too. I prefer to be inside, but I could be outside. The thing is, most of the time, when it's thunder and lightning, it's also raining. And by the way, would you believe this? I am 53 years old and I have never seen a rainbow, ever. (except for the small one on a sunny day and you're holding a hose.)

I think your girlfriend just likes to be cuddled. Wrap her with your arms and she won't be afraid anymore. And marty, go out after the rain and look up into the high heavens. I am sure you can even catch two arcs if you look long enough.

I actually kind of like it....like the strength.....but then I am strange? I also love the wind. I know alot of people don't like it but where I grew up the wind blew everyday and when I hear the howling, it's a sign of comfort to me....memories!

The wind is my friend, too. I love it even when it blows may hair north, south, east or wet, ha ha! The howling, you bet it is not eerie at all. It is actually music to my ears.

Mmmmm, maybe you have to get a security blanket at arm's reach. The lightnings are fiercer and the thunders are louder and longer. Cover yourself up and mutter peas and carrots for a full minute. And when I see the flashes and hear the rumbles, I'll imagine you all cramped with eyes shut tight mumbling peas and carrots. Oh you poor creature, now I am making fun of you. I am bad, noh! But truly, call your guardian angel and tell him to envelop you with his gentle wings. You'll be fine!

Lightnings are more fatal, I think. But I know what you mean. Sound can shake us up. I can also feel the thunder when it is real loud. Can actually vibrate my computer chair.

I used to be scared of it when I was much younger, but I don't really mind it so much now. I think I would be a little scared if I was outside in it on my own, particularly if I had nowhere to shelter.
When I am at home though, I like to look out of the balcony window and see the flashes of lightning in the sky, it looks really pretty where I live.

Hiya eileen,
Yes they are breathtaking but I love to watch them from inside the House or on the Balcony. I also go out in the Storm I am not afraid of them anymore.
But you can watch a Storm better if you are in a good window to view it all or on the balcony and the plus is you donĀ“t get wet.
I love the big crashes of Thunder and the patter of the Rain too.

Hiya eileen,
Well that is a good thing that has come out of bad ending poor old tree.
I hate to see Forest Fires as some of those Trees are centuries old sometimes too. They survive many many Storms to end up being barbecued because of careless People.
All the same I love Storms there should be a few coming up soon with the Weather we are having some real ding dongers as I call them some real good ones.

I love, love, love thunderstorms, especially during the summer. There is just something so exciting about them. Sometimes I get scared when it gets really windy (we're prone to tornatoes in my area), but overall, I think they are great!

Summer storms, I have not experienced one. Perhaps I would lie on the fields and allow the thunder reverberate into my whole being. And the wind, I love it, too.

A heavy downpour could really get scary. On occasions like this, I pause and feel the moment and tell myself that in a few minutes this will be over. I give myself a minute and when I can't breathe through the rain anymore, i dash for cover. Then I go home and treat myself to a warm bath and hot soup.

When i was young, little scare of the loud bom, but nowsday being older and mature, i learn to differentiate. Not all flash is followed by the loud bom.WHen the weather with strong wind , rain pounding and the cloud is think, there is more chance of thunder bom with the flash. Not all flash is followed by loud thunder. That how i overcome the fear by identify it and be prepared.

Well, not exactly that afraid but just recently, i have been reading about it and got me more interested about it. the thing is, after reading and getting more info about it, i became more concerned about it. because i found out that anybody can really get hit by it and that the thinking that the highest thing will be the first to be struck is not true. so it made me more careful when i hear it. another interesting info is that lightning can also originate from the ground. i'll continue to read more about it coz its really very interesting and even the scientists are still puzzled about the mechanisms of lightning.

This is good info. What I know is there are lightning prone areas. And lightning rods or posts must be installed for safety.

i'm not afraid of them ^_^ and does it seem mean that=when thunder and lightining strikes i enjoy watching how people would react especially if its a sudden loud thunder. seeing the lightning strike amazes me too, like how clear some are when they do strike. the only downside about is, is when it's night. our room is at the 2nd floor and it's directly under the ceiling so when thunder bangs it's really loud, does not help with sleep

I do that, too, I mean, watch how people react to lightning and thunder. I have seen old women seek cover under the table. Their fear was for real! I was sort of laughing when I shouldn't be but they look hilarious!

I love storms, but I don't like to be OUT in them. I will open windows and enjoy them, even let some water come in. I've also been out in a covered type shed enjoying them, but I've heard of things, like a storm a few years ago, that hit a lady's car and blew out the back window, so lightening isn't something to be out in.
Lee Trevino, the golfer, was struck by lightening in 1975, it really isn't something to mess with.

It is always wise to take cover and keep safe. There is no joy at all in being hist by lightning. But storms are nature's way of playing with us. With global warming though, the storms had become destructive.

Hi Eileenleyva,
I love thunder and lightning storms also! Still, we have to respect the potential danger in them. I had a friend who was killed a few years back after being struck by lightning. They are beautiful and exciting but a little fear is a good thing. You have to be safe.

That is wise. We should not expose ourselves to danger. I heed to your advice.

yeah machismo no more for those fellows but anyway I had friend i use to hang around with who like you was fascinated by storms. he lived up on a steep hill and he would stand outside when it would be thundering and lighting enjoying the scene i guess like it was an awesome event he didn't have to pay tickets for. the funny side of it was his mom was yelling at him from the inside screaming for him to get inside. he was just too caught up in the moment. however, no i wouldn't stand out in the driveway like my friend would do just to watch the scene of the storm. i'm not into taking a chance on getting alternative shock treatment.

I wouldn't stand either. I sit on my veranda. There's a difference between feeling the force of nature and inviting danger. I don't like shock at all, ha ha!

When i was a child i was afraid of thunder and lightning. I would adults telling all of these terrible stories about people being struck by lightning and catching houses on fire. This childhood fear soon turned into fascination. I love to watch lightning flash across the sky and hear the distant rumble of thunder. it is nature's way of waking us up.

No I'm not afraid of lightnings and thunders. But I really hate it when a loud thunder suddenly boom out of nowhere. This most of the time makes me jump. I'm really not a fan of thunderstorms because most of the time that means brownouts here in our place.
I know some who are afraid of lightnings because they are afraid they might get hit. But I always told them that the probability of us getting hit by lightning is almost zero. Anyone who got hit by it is really, really, really unlucky.

I am a jumper, too. Sometimes, when I do not see the flash of lightning and hear the thunderous rumble first, I jump. But when I realize it is the thunder, I pause to listen. The last one I heard sounded so near and it lasted a full minute.
