A new adiction in my life!

So it seems that as soon as I quit an adiction I find another one. My latest, by product of my vacations in Arica is the mango milk shake. Have you tried it? If you haven´t, you are missing something! Every day of the week I was in Arica, we went with my friend to a wonderful soda fountain at mail street. It was the kind with tables outside and you could see the people pasing by while you sipped your juice. I had in mind a mango juice when we went the first time. But the waiter asked me if I wanted it with water or milk. I had never had one with milk so I HAD to try it. It was a love at first sip! The mango shake was thick and it tasted heavenly. So now I must confess thta even if here mangos are quite expensive, I bought one big one and did a full brainwash so that I would not feel guilty by buying it. Have you tried a mango mlk shake? Do you like it? Have you had the experience of discovering new awesome food in one of your vacations? Do you have your own milk shake adiction? Share

Vanilla ice cream is the base for all shakes here. They just add whatever flavoring that u want. I think u could just do that & add the mangoes. That's what they do w/banana shakes. YES, I HAVE NOTICED THAT, LOL.

Hi Jo. Maybe I should pick up that bit of information, see if there is mango icecream at the super (there must be) and concoct the real thing.. You don´t have to tell me that they are fattening. Have you noticed that every bit of nice food is fattening? I have to shed at least 20 pounds.

I never had this kind of expereince. Was introduced to chocolate and still imprisoned by it and never got out it and have no intention to escape either. I do not care of nutrients, but taste and still do . Thank you for sharing your addiction

Hi friend! Nice to see you around! I am so addicted to chocolate that I don´t buy it anymore. And when someone gives me chocolate as a gift, I sit and eat it all in a second. I´m afraid I have the same idea towards it: I don´t care hoe good it is for my health as long as it´s SO yummy! But now I eat chocolate with my mind in peace as it has been discovered that it is antidepressive! Try the mango milkshake. I just blended milk, mango and a little bit of sugar. One of my mylot friends suggested icecream on top but that is more difficult.

Mangoes taste like peaches, I had a severe reaction to a peach and have been off peach pretty much since then, so obviously, if they taste the same, I have no desire to have anything to do with a mango...

I son´t have the same taste buds you have, apparently. I don´t think that mangos and peaches taste alike. And it´s probablr that your reaction had to do with some chemical in the peach that maybe it is not present in the mangos.

Oh, I realize that I probably won't react to the mango, but you can't get the brain turned from the fact that the smell is enough to put me off because of the reaction to the peach. I have, in fact, eaten peaches a few times since the reaction, but they are only a very few times...

I know what you mean. Probably they will not cause an allergic problem but you will not be happy with it. I´m sorry because I love peaches and mangos are the fruits I love best. But I bet there are other fruits you like and can eat without problems

Mangos are expensive in the part of Chile where I live because they bring it from warmer places. But I just bought one big mango when I cam back and I made a lovely milkshake with half of it. So it´s not that expensive.

Hmm that really does sound interesting. I cant imagine mango tasting good with just water maybe with some sugar or something in it. I have only had mango as a flavoring in other juices so I'm not sure what it tastes like alone. A mango milkshake sounds really yummy though I will have to try and make one sometime.

Hi shaggin, It´s water or milk AND sugar. But the good thing about it was that it was made with ripe mangos.

Helo Marguicha, Mangoes is one of my favorite fruit. When I was still in Philippines I have encountered that mango milk shake. I usually bought that to vendors selling in side street. Also whenever I make some smoothies, I always mix it with milk. In Philippines when you said you want to prepare fruit salads, smoothies or fruits shakes, it usually involves adding milk to make it creamier and more deliciours.

What exactly is a smoothie? I think I will have to learn the difference between several different types of fruit blender with other ingredients. I had never heard of using yogurt until I started talking about this at mylot. I have learned a lot here

We don´t have mangos in my citu either but you can buy a mango at a supermarket. I bought a big one (I suppose it was imported from Mexico) and used half of it, not much sugar and cold milk (plus 3 ice cubes) to make it in a blender. A friend here suggested icecream. I´ll try that too.

What is lassi, Dawn? That word is not in my small English dictionary. Do explain, please. And if you can also give me a recipe, it will be even better!

My wife makes at home using milk and crushed ice and over ripe mangoes, though both of us have diabetes , we can't resist the temptation to drink, in mall one can buy in stalls, but we prefer home made.. Am happy you enjoy it, it is kind of adiction.. Thanks for sharing HAPPY HOLI Cheers. God bless you, have a nice day ahead. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

I imagine that if you don´t add sugar it´s not so bad. I have heard that fructose is not as bad for diabetes as glucose. Am I right? And overripe gives the extra sweetness and mango smell. YUMMY!!!

Try it, T-Diamond! This has nothing to do with liking or not liking milk. I am not a milk drinker either. But mangos make the difference. I bought one big one and used half of it for a blender full (added sugar, cold milk and a couple of ice cubes). YUMMY!!!

I LOVE anything made with mangoes! I have had mango shakes, and I agree that they are DELICIOUS! I also love the mango lassi, which I believe originated in India--it is not quite as thick as a mango milkshake, but much thicker than straight mango juice. If you haven't yet tried it, you should. They sell them at most Indian restaurants. Mango yogurt shakes and smoothies are wonderful, also. Mangoes are good for you, so I say feed your addiction! Especially because I share it. :-)

Please explain how to make the mango lassi. I went only once to an indian restaurant but the food is very different from ours so that as the people who invite me out get older, they chose restaurants not so spicy.

I had tried (and loved) to eat a mango as a fruit, in salads and juices. This was my first mango with mikl but I have adopted it since. It is delicious! I´m envying the countries where mangos grow. In my country, we only have mangos in the far north but not enough to reach where I live.
