Do you eat much when you are stressed?

I am not particular with my eating pattern. I always level it to normal. I'm not following any diet advices. I usually take my breakfast whatever is on the table just the same with lunch and dinner, but in normal level. But I am not more of meat taker. Sometimes I feel like I'm craving for something, that's when I take time to find and have it even in a small amount just to satisfy my tastebuds. What bothers me most is when I feel stressed, I've noticed that I eat a lot. My friends usually tells me that they know if I'm stessed. I get used to increase weight because of eating much. They say that eating is my outlet of being stressed. Have you something in particular as your outlet when your stress?

dear simpleBB, food is my outlet when i am stressed or dissatisfied or even when i am depressed. it is not a good outlet, i know, but since i live alone and my best friend is very far away, i tend to put my effort on food. i am a ton heavier lately and now my problem is how to lower it. have a nice day. ann

yes tigeraunt, getting heavier caused by food as stress reliever will only add our stress and crave for more food...lol. A not-good cycle. Good luck for us to find a better alternative that could be useful for us. Happy mylotting.

Hi dear, In my case, if I am stressed, I eat less. My mind may be disturbed and concentrated with the subject where I am troubled. In such cases, I don’t even prefer to eat also. But the magnitude is depending on the seriousness of the matter. But preferably, I do not like have too much at any times. Sometimes, the taste of the food and if so hungry, will have little more but not beyond the limits. I think for many people, having food at times is important and the situations can be any they don’t mind. Regards, Thank-s

No, I really eat much when I'm stressed. Whenever I'm under some stress, I'm actually not hungry at all. It's usually when I eat the lest. For one reason or another, this has always been the case for me. It's just the way that my body works, and has worked for a long time.

Thanks dodo, good for people like you to have such body reaction to stressed. Gaining weight would not be a big deal. Thanks for the sharing your response to this post.

that's the tendency... but i am trying to control it... but the downside and putting a noose on one's gustatory leanings is that i get my smoking on a increased frequency... i really have to cut loose from both... overeating can spike my blood sugar... smoking is really bad for the heart...

I agree with you, both are harmful for our health. And of course, we don't want to get into some problems concerning our health. Well, I think that's the only thing we can do. TRY to cut loose from both. Good luck to us. Thanks to your idea.

I can't eat when I'm stressed out! What I always do is to take a rest, or take a nap! Sometimes I go out with friends.

A big YES! LOL. Well, when there's available food I really do eat when I'm stressed, also when I'm depressed. I love eating but it really doesn't show. I don't know why but It's really difficult for me to gain weight.

Good for you, that would not be a problem for you. ACtually, the reason why I consider eating habit as stress reliever is the reason of gaining weight. Well, for you it doesn't seem a big deal. Thanks for sharing on this post.

I actually have 2 things that I tend to do depending on the mood I am in, I think. I have always been an eater when I am stressed, much like you do and THAT can be stressful since I am already overweight AND a diabetic!! But I do tend to watch what it is that I DO eat more than I used to. I also find myself cleaning house when I am stressed, and I am NOT the best of housekeepers, so that could be a good thing!!

LOL, that's a good idea, though you're not best in housekeeping, that would be good for you. Two birds in one stone as the saying goes... you had diverted your focus instead of eating but rather into something useful for your body, exercising is also of significant to diabetic like you. My father is also a diabetic and advised to take food diet and instead take more exercise. Cleaning is a good exercise, aside from seeing your house being cleaned. Hope I could do that. Thanks to this response.

I smoke. And I wish I didn't. But I also don't want to start eating when I am stressed. I have cut down and somedays think I don't need any at all...in fact after supper I hardly smoke!

hi simple bb yes I do and thats really bad for me as I am a diabetic and stress and overeating just really shove my blood sugar up too. When I stress it seems like I crave food and I hate this as I am really overweight now and need to lose weight badly. more excercise and less food will be the next step for me.

Sad to hear that Hatley. Being a diabetic is an additional problem for you if you responds to stress the way I do. Gaining weight is really bad for health much more to someone like you. My father is also a diabetic and even harder to control him from eating. Hope you could alter to something better and would help you to protect from increasing your sugar level. Happy mylotting to you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this post.

Unfortunately, I have the same problem. When I'm stressed or put into emotionally charged situations, I turn to food. Some people don't eat when they have problems but my reaction has always been to eat. What I've done lately is taken a cue from Oprah. I keep bags of washed lettuce and spinach and other veggies in the refridgerator and when I get into one of those places, I open up a bag. You don't have to eat a whole lot before you're full but it's impossible to have too many calories. Good luck

Wow, that's one of a good idea. Instead of eating just anything, if we can't avoid it, turned into something which is more valuable, veggies is a good alternative. You're right, it's not important to eat a lot of it, having enough just to satisfy the habit. Thanks to Oprah and you for sharing such a nice idea. I will surely consider this.

hi, I usually don't eat much during stress, just mildly cos' it bothers me much.In order to de-stress ,i just try to avoid thinking about it for some time or think of some other positive things in mind.Though it just last a short time,it brings a certain level of relieves to me. I realized i tends to eat more when i get headaches such as migraine which i cannot explained.

YES! the worst part is i tend to eat the 'bad' foods -- chocolates, ice cream cakes & pastries (even if, normally, i am not much of a sweet tooth); or the other extreme -- salty junk food such as chips. it's funny because under normal conditions, i have very bland taste. :)) and yes again, i tend to get bigger during the times when my stress level is high. maybe it's because i have the tendency to be lethargic when i am stressed. i just want to stay in my corner and munch on anything edible i can get hold of, as long as it's not sour. never developed the taste for sour food.

It's really funny, but you know that when you read or write stressed backward, you will get desserts...lol. Women usually fond of sweet, just be careful and better to divert into something more useful. Try to read some of responses I gathered here and for sure you can get a tip best for you. Happy mylotting. Thanks.

Even I do not follow any eating pattern, nor any diet advices. Even I take the food served on the table. But the only difference between you and me is that, I feel like eating more when I am angry, and my anger soon gets vanished. And contradictingly, when I am tired or stressed I dont feel like eating more.

Yes, I would say that I do eat more, or at least want to eat more at times of stress. At times of shock, that is slighly different from day-to-day stress, I tend to go right off eating altogether and often go for one or two days without eating at all. _Derek

I am the complete opposite...when I am stressed, I tend not to eat at all...I don't know if that comes from when I was annorexic when I was a teenager or not but I guess I just lose my appetite when I have alot of things on my mind.

Hi Simple, I normally dont eat much when I am stressed.I eat well when I am happy and everything is going well in my life.If there is something wrong then I tend toi loose interest in food...However I have known many of my friends who also eat a lot when they are stressed, I guess we need to have an outlet for our emotions in some for or the other...have a nice day and happy mylotting

I eat a lot when I am stressed.., and I cannot deny it., I always give in to stress-induced cravings..=) That was the reason why I used to be overweight.., and the more I check my weight on the weighing scale.., the more stressed I get upon seeing my weight gain.., and the more I will crave for food.., and so on.., Thanks God.., I got control over it.., I could have became seriously obese..=)

good that you've been able to control it. Really overeating could harm our health, and yes, gaining weight is another stressor to crave more for food...just a cycle..lol. Wishing that we could alter it into something useful.Happy mylotting.
