Hi mylotters,
I'm very glad to find a website like myLot. It not only gives me a chance to broaden my experience on different aspects of life but also helps to improve my writing skill.
I wanna raise a question that if there are any other effective ways to empower my academic writing skill. Because I'm having a thesis to finish round this year.
Can you help me? Thanks a lot for your advice!

Sometimes I think one of the best ways to improve our writing skills is to have someone who is qualified to edit writing (meaning they are a very good writer) look at something we have written. Ask them to make changes where we have made a mistake and then really look at the changes that were made. Ask them to explain them if need be, too. But I think you can learn a lot from a good writer who will point out faults in our own work. After a while, if you remember the mistakes that have been corrected in the past, you will hopefully learn to look for these same mistakes in your writing as you go along. Good luck!

I highly appreciate your advice. I share the same thought that we can learn much from our own errors. And more important is to find a person who could help find out our mistakes. That's very fruitful in writing skill. How about critical thinking? Does it play a crucial role in academic writing?

First thing to consider in writing academic is having a stylistic approach of writing, next is the solid plan of the entire research and then the excellent usage of grammar. The style of writing refers to how it should be written like the way of writing numbers or pages, citations, references, etc. You choose either Chicago, APA, MLA style, etc. according to the kind of research; like for instance, the subject is psychology or science, APA style is commonly used to it. After determining or deciding what style to use, go for the solid plan of the entire research as to how it should be conducted, consider the tools to use, respondent, etc. Remember, the success of the academic writing lies on how reliable the research and how it is chronologically and logically presented/explained. Of course, the excellent usage of grammar is part of it. Noted that, to avoid plagiarized work, always put the correct sources. As soon as you finished your thesis, let someone edits your work (pro editor) until the output becomes perfect and ready to publish.
