Some years ago my husband and I went to visit his cousin. That night we went to bed, fell asleep and several hours later I awoke to see a man standing inside the room. He was inside the room, in front of the door that I was certain that I had locked before getting into bed. My first reaction was that we were going to be robbed! I elbowed my husband and when he woke up I whispered that there was a thief in the room. He looked around then whispered 'where?' I said, 'In front of the door!' He looked for a while then said 'There's nobody there, go back to sleep'. Now I was looking at this man so I said, 'Look, look, he's there,' then frantically, 'he's coming towards us! he's coming towards us!' The man was tall, heavily built but I couldn't see any features, all I saw was a dark shadow. I was clutching at my husband saying 'He's coming towards the bed! He's right beside us, he's standing over us, looking at us! He's by the bed head looking at us!' All this time my husband is also whispering, 'There's nobody there, I cant see anybody!, twisting his head from side to side trying to see this person who by now is standing right over him. I had turned my head, following his progress and by the time he got to the head of the bed my head was turned, looking back and up at him. I still saw no features, just a black shadow. He stood there for a while then calmly walked back toward the door. I told my husband who by now is lying as rigid as a board beside me. Then there was no one there, I jumped out of the bed, switched on the light then ran to the door. It was still locked. Now, can someone please explain what happened?

This is really scary experience.
There's a lot of imaginary things that happen and could happen around us.
Some people might don't believe ,but, bad spirits do exists and roam around.
Just ignore and don't get affected.
You can close your eyes and say a little prayer.
Your faith in God is much powerful than of darkness.
Have a good weekend

You are right jaiho we can seek for God's help at such times when we don't understand what is happening, whether ghosts exist or not. Once something similar happened with me and i prayed, prayed hard to let me off this feeling. I felt someone holding my hand while i was sleeping and i was not able to open my eyes or move. I was relieved once this was over. I thank God it was over soon, i was really helpless that time. I am not sure what happened or who it was.

hello again carol,
Weird things were usually experienced by my grandfather and he tells us about it.
And each time he encountered those,he only had one thing in mind...to close his eyes and say a prayer.
I guess only chosen few were able to see, feel and experienced real weird regarding the unseen and unexplainable and you are one of those.
Just hold on to your faith in God dear.
Thanks for the BR mark and happy mylotting

Your post has been bugging me since I seen it. I have heard this exact same story before. A very good friend of mines Mother saw the same apparition in her bedroom one night. She was very open to such things and almost seem to attract strange goings on, a lot of weird stuff happened in her house. One night my friend, her Mother and I were in the kitchen just chatting and having some tea, when we heard someone running up the stairs and a door slam. We went to investigate but the house apart from us was empty. The two of them were very clam about the whole situation but I have to say I was a little unnerved. They had told me before about a few of the strange goings on in the house but I never really gave them a second thought until that night. I think after that night I did believe some of the stories her Mother told.
Anyway back to the black shadow apparition you seen, I remember her Mother telling me about it and the story is exactly as you describe and I know it did scare me a little and I don't scare easily. I remember her saying that others had seen the same exact apparition but I can't remember what the exact significance of it or what it means. I will ask her again when I see her next. This must have been at least fifteen years ago and I had forgot about it until I seen your discussion. I have to say I do feel a bit uneasy after reading it.
As I said your post has been bugging me so I did a little digging and I think I may have the answer. I think what you describe is one of the effects of sleep paralysis. I have experienced sleep paralysis once and it was scary although I did not see any shadows or dark figures but one of the effects of it is hallucinations.
I did however experience what one would call a presence within the room. I think sleep paralysis would account for most of the alien abduction stories too.

Other mylotters have experienced the same kind of thing. Have a look here

I hope I was of help. The only thing that is odd is that you and your husband had the experience at the same time.
Remebember though, fear is only in the mind

Thanks Thezone, but I have experienced sleep paralysis and this was not one of them. I was wide awake, moving, talking and fully aware of everything that was happening. There was no waking period after he left, I immediately jumped out of the bed and with sleep paralysis there is an awareness of having woken up and that the situation was not real. Thanks for the theory and I will have a look at the link that you sent.

Thezone, I had a look at the links that you sent and they are really interesting. I found out that the sleep paralysis that I had experienced was the waking stage of REM sleep. I havn't experienced it recently thank God, but when I was a teenager and possibly one other time as an adult. As they said there is a feeling of terror because your mind is awake but the body will not respond to the commands it gets, to wake up and get out of bed! I think the last time it happened, as soon as I could move, I threw myself out of the bed and ended up on the floor! Have you had a chance to talk to your mother yet? I am interested in hearing what she has to say.

Hi, carol2532001. This has to have been a ghost. And what made this so scary is the fact that it was walking towards you. Your husband did not believe you at all. What a shame!! What if this ghost was coming to harm you both?? If this was me, I would never stay another night at my cousin's house at all! You was not dreaming this at all. You actually saw this ghost! And it saw you too!

Thanks for the vote of confidence cream! I think I saw a ghost too. Although my husband was a bit sceptical he never suggested that we go back to visit. He was really scared when when I kept telling himn what was happening and he couls'nt see any of what was going on!

Have you ever hallucinated? I think I did as a child, my mother said that I must have been dreaming although I knew that I was wide awake. My dad was out and my mother heard a car and thought that it might have been him coming home so she went to look. I saw a man that I thought was my dad open the door and look out too. I waited for him to get back in bed but he didn't, when I asked for him mom told me that he hadn't come home yet. She went back to sleep but I suddenly started to feel cold, I lay there awake and shivering suddenly I saw a womans face in the ceiling above us (I was in bed with my mom) looking down at us. There was an evil look in her face as if she would kill us if she could. I have half convinced myself that I probably was dreaming but at the time I felt wide awake.

Maybe your third eye is active that time. I do believe that whenever we wake up, we can easily see something or someone that we can't explain or some creatures.
Another thing is that according to old people that usually some creatures dwell with those abandoned or vacant rooms, buildings, and houses. So my parents told me that whenever I will not use my room clean it and I have to uncover the bed So that the spirit will not use it. So that's the reason that ghost wanted to sleep with his bed and you were there. heheheh!!! Just sharing what I know

Thanks for making me laugh. I enjoyed your response! I hope you never have to send a ghost to osama! I would agree with you if I had been asleep but I was wide awake I can assure you. Something as vivid and realistic as this experience has never happened to me since but I have occasionally had just a fleeting glimpse of a figure, just a fraction of a second, while I was wide awake during the day alone at home.

Uff!! I I were there, I wouldn't whisper. I'll just scream like hell that even if it's a ghost, it'll get terrified and runs away. I think that dark shadow is a ghost, if your brain wasn't tricking you at that time. Because, this brain plays nasty tricks most of the time. If you believe that you were completely conscious and free from any disturbance at that time, then it's definitely a ghost. Why don't you get back to the same house and do some research on it?

I didn't scream because my husband was a cop and I expected him to go all macho and arrest the man that I thought was a thief! Only for him to tell me that he couldn't see any one in the room! There's no way that I would go back to that house. I drive past it occasionally and people are still living in it. I have no intention of even going to the gate! My cousin-in-law moved many years ago, it wasn't their house and they bought one of their own. I should ask her one day if they ever had anything peculiar while they lived there.

Thanks for responding, I had not seen a movie, not even recently, even on TV. We were just talking before we went to bed. I think it was a ghost, but my husband thought that I was trying to trick him, which I wasn't. Needless to say we never went back to that house.

There are so many unexplainable occurrences like you mentioned that the mind can makes us believe there is someone there when there is not.
I tell you though after your description and running down to check the door you were very brave. Imagine in fact there was someone in the house and you did what you did oh my God you have put your self in danger.
Sometimes we awaken after a deep sleep feeling like you do when something subconsciously is troubling you they say it is a sense of insecurity or trouble in personal life. Like fear after loss of a job, high debts or something of loss.
Wow your discussions grabbed me I almost thought for a second there was a bad ending.

I agree with you that there are many unexplained things occurring in this world. This was one of them! The door that I checked was the bedroom door and there was nothing between the bed and the door for someone to hide behind. The room was pretty empty because they were newly married and this was the guest room with just a bed and dresser in it. We were also newly married and didn't have any problems yet, we went to visit them for the weekend and it wasn't the first time that we had stayed there. I am glad that he didn't get angry, he just looked at us and left.

How about someone standing outside the window and light was coming from a street lamp or something... especially since you could not make out any facial features..??? In your state of mind you panicked and your brain made matter worse, brain is known to have chemical imbalances which will make you see things. I do not rule out the existence of the supernatural, but its possible that a simple scientific explanation exists.

Sorry about your street light theory, there was none, only the moon and we were in a back bedroom. I only panicked after my husband told me that he couldn't see anyone! As a matter of fact I turned and looked at him to see if he was looking in the right direction and he was. This experience was not the first one that I had no explanation for, I had footsteps, two separate and distinct follow me to my home then stopped when they got to the edge of my driveway. But thats another story.
