Ok today I have read a disturbing story that our UK Government are giving £60,000,000 to Pakistan Aid, this was originally £31 million which has recently been doubled.
This comes at a time when Britons learn that our VAT is to rise by 2.5%, our benefits are on the line etc. Yes the Government can still afford to send £60million of our hard earned cash to a country who need "aid".
This is one day after Pakistan played in a big cricket game...surely they could have postponed said game, and given the money they would have spent on their travel expenses to the aid programme???
As I have said before, Pakistan made it VERY clear a couple of months ago that help from the West is unwanted Westernised interference...these are their own words and not mine, whether it was the Government, Taliban, or residents who said such a stupid thing, I dont really care...if we had a government who said we didnt want help from anybody else, then why the hell should anyone help us???
Last year we had people in the small villages in the North of England devastated by floods, ok not on a million person scale, and it probably didnt make even national let alone international news (well its only the UK afterall!!!!!!!), but people were killed, people were left without their homes, and this was all a week before Christmas. We got no help from anyone. Many of those people are still homeless and penniless.
I don't mind if people want to dig into their own pockets and give money to a country who clearly stated they didnt want our help, for the money to go to the wrong hands. BUT, it annoys the HELL out of me that the Government in this country are going on about saving money, about not spending a penny on anything, upping tax, lowering benefits, making VAT higher, but can then go and waste £60million on keeping other countries and the damn UN happy!!!!!
I surely cannot be the only person who this annoys. Yes it is very sad for ANYBODY to have a natural disaster like this, whether its the UK, Pakistan, Europe, USA anybody...but when a country says "we dont want your dirty western money", it most certainly makes me think then why the hell are we wasting money we do not have on giving you money! Especially when clearly your own country arent even doing anything to help...the Pakistan government are warm and dry...and the sports teams...shouldnt help start at home before you ask elsewhere!?

I have to agree with you.
I know that it does sound a little harsh considering the terrrible ordeal the people hve been through in Pakistan, but as you pointed out Pakistan have turned down Western help in the past and we are hardly all filthy ruch here anyway.
The Cumbrian floods didn't get internetional support and I doubt even if our country did suffere a ddevastating occcurance such as the floods in PAkistan other countries would be queuing up to help us!!

exactly! As I say, if people want to give money, thats up to them, but it annoys me when the Government give £60m which we simply do not have, which WE have paid for at the end of the day in taxes! I can think of 100 better places for that money to go in our OWN country. But no, the UK has to keep the whole world happy, screw the residents in our own country and our own economy, so long as the UN and EU are happy...!
