i am planning to make website where users can make article about their favorite MMORPG game, you think this could be OK idea ?
it would be free to register and you could read articles without registeration. Site would look like Wikipedia and work like it (mediawiki system).
And there would be a competison where best article written would be rewarded with in game items or/and in game-time .
feel free to give your own ideas and i am more than willing to have partners :) (no skill needed)

Hey l4ur33,
I'm a very in depth MMORPG player and I understand where you are coming from, there are many sites like this out there, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is
http://www.mmorpgforum.com/
Check it out if you want, it doesn't have as much in dept as you are looking for though.
To have a reward system like that you would need to also have players that spend all day every day to play the game, and you would have to pay them to play the game...You'd need experienced players give up fun and start hunting for money and items non-stop so that you could throw out rewards.
If you're thinking of an active site for MMORPGs you will be receiving a TONNE of posts every day if you find an active population, so you would have to have about 10+ people playing EVERY MMORPG posted on the site, getting everything needed so that you could give the reward out.
Also you would need to charge memberships for the site or else you would have to end up paying for all of this out of your own pocket;
For in-game memberships and other things like this, including salaries, it would run you about atleast 6 grand a month..
All in all unless you have the right marketing, members, partners and knowledge of EVERY game out there, it would be a total bust.

ty for your another detailed comment keythynomos.
you have some realy good points there, and i can sertently see that you know a lot more about website hosting than i do.
webs.com was hosting service i thought about but i wouldn't be able to install mediawiki to webs.com so i am now thinking about using wikii.com and url shortener like dot.tk to make something like mmorpgwiki.tk (or come up with something "catchy").
ps.I will start making my wiki site tomorrow so we can see if it will be any good or if it will be realy big mistake =), i have nothing to lose than my time untill i start to play with real domains.

Haha that makes sense.
It's good to know that you atleast know what direction you want to take with it.
I've played a couple MMORPGs...
I know a little about Fiesta, Lineage 2, Luna Online, RF Online, Maple Story and Perfect world...
I know a bunch about Runescape, Ether Saga, Conquer Online and Combat Arms
Yeah I know that they aren't all MMORPGs, but they are MMOs.
MMOs/MMORPGs/MMOFPS
I also have played games that I can't even remember the title too...not all that special in my opinion.
If you have questions or anything you'd like to ponder about, you could ask me, I sadly can't get on that much because I'm up visiting my family at the moment, but after I get home in about a week I would be able to help a lot more.
I've never used wikii.com lol. It'd make things really easy it seems so it's worth a shot.
There are a lot of games out there that just aren't worth playing real domains anymore. Private servers have become a big thing, so it'd be neat if you also implemented in a list of top private servers for the top MMORPGs on your site.
There's so many sites out there that you could get bits of information from too if you wanted to double check with things.
There's an abundance of information that you could put in too;
Game Guides, Glitches, Hints, Hunting Guides, Leveling Guides, Money Guides, Crafting Guides (for some games which have a crafting related skill).
If you also went into it, you could add different consoles.
Since there's a massive amount of games that you can play online on the Xbox360 and PS3.

Ty Keuthonymos agean =)
yes i have played about 20-30 mmorpgs, so i can make many starting articles, and when any user can make article site will soon have lot's of information.
Ty for another fantastic idea, i will surely make own section for top private servers.
only console that i have ever owned is Nindento Wii and gameboy color so i know very little about consoles so it will take some time to make console games into mmorpg wiki

Personally, I think this is a great idea. This post might have been a bit late, but it's alright with me as long as it's alright with you.
Wiki is very often used for MMORPGs. Especially the popular ones. The world of warcraft wiki probably has millions of hits every day!
The point is, the MMORPG wiki is a great idea, as long as you make it for popular games and find a way to spread the word that it exists.
Good luck!

I am not into mmorpg but i think you got your idea on developing the sites then pursue about it. There are a lot of mmorpg enthusiasts that want to read more information about a certain game or a bit of game information or story. even tutorials that would a good. I am a developer so maybe in developing your site i can help you.
