Can anyone tell me why a rumor about Obama being a Muslim is such s big deal? He is the President and he Has to protect the Constitution. You know the document that uphold our right of Freedom of Religion or even freedom From religion? So why would His religion matter? I'm confused.

I think religious freedom is one of the principles that America was founded on, and one's religion shouldn't be any hindrance to run the country. In fact, it could only help. So, President Obama being a muslim is no big deal, the same way as George Bush being an Episcopalian is no big deal.

That's the whole point. he isn't a Muslim and the rumor is become so important to others. I couldn't care if he were a Atheist. But others are so fearful because they believe this rumor. It is so sad.

It is unbecoming of us really to discuss one's religion and belief especially so of a public figure. What ever is his following, he is proving to be good for the Americans as president. That, I think, is really what matters most!

Being an outsider, I really don’t know the ground issues but my one guess is maybe coz he never highlights his Muslim connection openly. What I mean is that right from the beginning if he had projected himself as half Christian half Muslim biracial American, running of the presidency on his own merit and with his own fresh ideas, it would not have made much of a difference. I guess only when he was established as Barack Obama that the middle name came up .. so I guess a lot of people are right when they’re asking now that why from the very beginning didn’t he make it amply clear that he has very strong Muslim connections. Now, whether that matters or not, only time will tell but yes, when you're not making everything clear from the very beginning, the seeds of doubt do get sowed.

Call me jaded but I never wait for politicians to tell the truth, it rarely happens. IOt really doesn't matter what religion he is. All he Has to do is protect the separation of Church and State

oh, i have heard this news before. saying his ancestors were muslim, and so is he. i guess these are all part of the news, whatever they could hold on to throw at him so he'd lose focus. sometimes even if we do not admit, we people are always looking out for the weaknesses of our leaders, our mayors, our friends even, and co workers right? but well im sure he already is the president so obviously no one cares about his religion... :D

Some are worried . I think this is why this rumor won't die. Thankfully he is very smart and is ignoring all this and is doing his work.I think the ones who are so worried are not Really worried about his religion but it is his race that bothers them. they can't believe a smart black man is president so they are looking for anything they can to discredit him. So sorry This thing doesn't work. Only 5% believe it!

I remember reading a history book saying that experts didn't expect John F. Kennedy to be elected president since he was Catholic. It's the way people are these days, thankfully still in the minority but geeze, the media pays them too much attention! And then there are those who are working to get America "back to it's roots" as a Christian nation. i imagine it will be like Iran if they are successful.

Yes Many thought that if there were a Catholic President , he wuld be lead by the Pope and not The Constitution, They were wrong. What we got was a man who thought fir himself and was rich enough he couldn't be bought. So They had to kill him. I am fearful the same They may try this with Obama. He thinks for himself too. As for there people who think we were a Christian Only nation don't know their history, especially if by Christian they mean Protestant Only. From the beginning most settlers were Christian yes but not All.And as long as there is the separation of Church And State , America Will never be a Christians Only Country.I feel sorry for those who think they can make her that way and actually believe it was before.

hi sarahruthbeth, I think USA made this an issue as USA is a friendly state with Israel. So if Obama is a muslim, this will jeopardise the USA-Israel diplomatic relationship and may upset the Balance of Power.

No I disagree. The Israel-U.S. is more than religion , Money is involved. Any Muslim President will Still keep Israel as an ally or he won't be president long.

I completely agree with you, and i've often asked the same question. Back in the 60s, JFK being Catholic worried the nation, because they were worried that the Vatican would run the country, not Kennedy, himself. The Muslims that are a problem to us are the EXTREMEISTS, and the Christians and Jews and everyone else that are problematic to anyone are EXTREMEISTS. As long as Obama is not an EXTREMEIST I have no problem with him.

Even if he were an extremists , He couldn't rule over us. There is Congress to deal with and the people.Back in the day , people saw their rulers As a religous figure too. Not Any more .If Congress couldn't stop him , the Atheists will!

You are right. I think it doesn't matter which religion Obama believes in. USA is famous because of its freedom, the freedom of course including the speech, religion and so on. I love China

As the President of your country it makes no difference as to which reigion or faith Mr Obama is following because this is purely a personal matter.Since due to a few crazy and stupid people the Islam religion has been given a bad name. Muslims all over the world are generally peaceloving people and just want to get on with their lives just like people from other faiths.Whether Obama is a Muslim or a Christian or a Buddhist makes no difference because his job is to take care of his country of of his people who inhabit it.I think that some people, like the media just want to sensationalize everything for their benefit so that their earnings will increase a hundredfold.

I am sure this is just another rumor someone has thought up to piss people off! I have noticed no matter who we have as are president some idiots come up with these outragous conspiracy theories! That is just that! Nothing more! Since Obama became president I have heard he used money from Suddam Hussin to build his house in Chicago! Obama is not a US citizen because they can't find his birth certificate! All crap and I really don't believe Obama is a Muslim! If he is that is his chose! Enough said!

They make it a big deal because Muslims attack the World Trade Center on 9/11. Most people who says Obama is a Muslim or supports Muslim are just people who doesn't want Obama as the President. I really don't care if he is a Muslim or not. Just because some Muslims attack the World Trade Center, doesn't mean all Muslims are bad. People in the United States needs to stop judging other people for their religion and race they are from.

The report says it is only 5% of Americans think he is a Muslim So that means 95% don't or don't care. There are many Yanks like me who Know that not All Muslims are bad. There is hope Most Americans understand this.
